Best (and worst) of 2020

Well this has been quite a unique year for us in theme park land. But we can’t end the year and not mention our favorite meals we had during this year! So let’s jump in, I am only including options that are currently open and offered, as some things changes when the parks closed and reopened.

These options reflect only options we actually ate this year and are not in order of actual favorites. There are a few more I would normally add to this list, but don’t think I’ve eaten them this year since it’s been a wild ride. If you want to see the previous years top dishes, head here.

Best

Vegan Poutine from Le Cellier Steakhouse in Epcot

Vegan Poutine from Le Cellier Steakhouse

This poutine was the reason we went to Le Cellier Steakhouse, this is a reason to go back to Le Cellier. We were pleasently surprised with how much we enjoyed this dish and would go back to eat this, and the rest of our meal. Who would have thought some brown gravy with gooey cheese would be amazing?

Biergarten Restaurant Family Style in Epcot

Vegan Family Style at Biergarten

We have always loved Biergarten Restaurant in Epcot, but man we really love the current set up with family style instead of the buffet. Depending on the day you’re there, for the entree they have both Fishless Fillets and Beefless Tips to add to this massive spread. The whole meal here offers great flavor and you will leave very full.

Vegan Fish & Chips from the Rose & Crown Pub at Epcot

Vegan Fish & Chips from Rose & Crown Pub

These Vegan Fish & Chips might be our most regularly eaten item at Walt Disney World now. Being able to just swing by the Rose & Crown Pub and get these to go is so easy and they are so delicious. While they are just Gardein, they are extra special from here.

Toasted ‘Lobster’ Roll from Rosie’s All-American Cafe in Hollywood Studios

Toasted ‘Lobster’ Roll from Rosie’s All-American Cafe

This was a very new item that came in and surprised us! While we are used to the new vegan quick service options being heavy in faux meat, this one came in and knocked those out of the way. The ‘lobster’ here is made with hearts of palm and it packs a great flavor and offers a nice lunch. Plus who doesn’t love a view of the Hollywood Tower Hotel?

Traditional Warm Apple Crisp À la Mode from 50’s Prime Time Cafe at Hollywood Studios

Traditional Warm Apple Crisp À la Mode from 50’s Prime Time Cafe

This Apple Crisp was probably my favorite dessert we ate this year. It was very warm and just melted in your mouth with the vegan ice cream. I can’t wait for the Tune-In Lounge to eventually reopen here so I can just head to the bar and get some dessert without having to sit down here.

Bavarian Pretzel from BaseLine Tap House in Hollywood Studios

Bavarian Pretzel without cheese from BaseLine Tap House

If we’re at Hollywood Studios there is a good chance we’re going to BaseLine Tap House for a snack and beverage. This Bavarian Pretzel is always fresh and warmed, and all you have to do is swap the beer cheese dip for an extra mustard. Sorry Mickey Pretzels, but this guy is better.

Everything from Jungle Navigation Co. LTD Skipper Canteen in Magic Kingdom

We are obsessed with Skipper Canteen, I won’t even try to hide it. But the Perkins Thai Noodles and the Curried Vegetable Crew Stew are some of the most flavorful entrees I have had at Walt Disney World. Not to mention this killer dessert, Panna-Connie’s Conga Lime Delight! You can’t have a bad meal here, just bad puns.

Impossible Burger and Avocado Toast from Grand Floridian Cafe at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort

Impossible Burger and Avocado Toast from Grand Floridian Cafe

This is one of Marci and Andrew’s must eats when they are at the parks. The Impossible Burger here is one of the most flavorful around and comes with a vegan gouda and caramelized onions. Plus this unique Avocado Toast is something to really kick your brunch into high gear. You won’t regret any meal here.

Pepper Jack ‘Cheese’ Frittata from Whispering Canyon Cafe at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge

Pepper Jack ‘Cheese’ Frittata from Whispering Canyon Cafe

Watch out Tonga Toast, I may have found a new favorite breakfast on property. This Just Egg based Frittata is topped with spicy pepper jack cheese and comes with a side of potatoes and vegan sausage. The breakfast here is incredibly filling and a great option for an off day.

Bread with Oil, Beets Barigoule, and Fruits of the Forest from Topolino’s Terrace

While this whole meal was great, the biggest winners here were the Beet Barigoule appetizer and the Fruits of the Forest dessert. The bread and oil here were also one of the best we’ve ever had, anywhere. This whole meal offers great flavors and unique options with an amazing view.

Abra Fries and drinks from AbracadaBar at Disney’s BoardWalk

Abra Fries [without parmesan or aioli] from AbracadaBar

If you want strong drinks, head here. This bar is located between Flying Fish and Trattoria al Forno at the BoardWalk and it offers some unique drinks and killer snacks. These Abra Fries are vegan when you order them without parmesan and aioli leaving them to be incredibly flavorful truffle fries. The drinks are strong and worth the money here too.

Truffle Fries from Enchanted Rose

Truffle Fries (without parmesan) from Enchanted Rose

Okay we clearly have a type, and that type is truffle fries. But these Truffle Fries from Enchanted Rose at Disney’s Grand Floridian are absolutely delicious. Just order them without the parmesan to get them vegan.

Fried Pickles from City Works Eatery and Pour House at Disney Springs

Fried Pickles with vegan aioli from City Works Eatery and Pour House

This is a great mid day or evening snack. City Works Eatery is all the way at the end of Disney Springs, but absolutely worth the trek for these Fried Pickles. They come with a non-vegan ranch, so you need to substitute the dip for the vegan aioli they have here. I’d also like to honorably mention their Kung Pao Cauliflower because it is also very, very, good.

Impossible Burger from House of Blues at Disney Springs

Double Impossible Burger from House of Blues

Another one at the end of Disney Springs is one of our top of the top favorites, this Impossible Burger from House of Blues. It comes with a vegan cheese and a secret sauce using vegan mayo. We always go for a double here, it seems that is the best way to ensure the cheese is super melty.

Honorable Mention: Southern Fried Cauliflower from Crystal Palace in Magic Kingdom

Southern Fried Cauliflower from Crystal Palace

The only reason this isn’t a favorite is that the potatoes on this plate were awful. And the whole mess up of them serving us non-vegan biscuits, but regardless of that part of this meal, this cauliflower was delicious. It was cooked very well and packed a ton of flavor. Absolutely worth trying for a solid cauliflower steak.

WORST OF 2020

I can’t do these and not mention the bad. Luckily this year most was good, but there were a few that made this list.

Grilled Vegetable Sandwich from Beach Club Marketplace

Grilled Vegetable Sandwich from Beach Club Marketplace

Soggy bread, cold flavorless vegetables. I wouldn’t know what any of these vegetables were if I wasn’t looking at them before taking a bite. There is nothing else to say other than, do not try it.

Pacific Island Burger from D-Luxe Burger

Plant-Based Pacific Island Burger from D-Luxe Burger

I don’t know if this was bad because the toppings were weird or because the burger wasn’t cooked at all, but I am too scared to try this one again. If they change the toppings maybe, but at least the fries here were great.

Holiday Pot Pie from the American Holiday Table during the Taste of Epcot International Festival of the Holidays

Holiday Pot Pie

I thought it was just my hatred for Pot Pie, but others agree with me so this makes the list. The puff pastry part was very good, but the inside was slimy and only tasted like sage. Please don’t do this again next year, Disney.

2020 has been a ride, we’re thankful we’re still able to enjoy the parks since we live so close. I look forward to what 2021 brings us at Walt Disney World and can’t wait for the day you all can travel safely again and try these options for yourself.

Cheers to another year, thanks for the support!

Back in 2014 I created Vegan Disney World after going to Walt Disney World several times and finding no resource for vegan options. Corey and I began this blog from our trips and have now moved closer to the mouse to eat around the parks on a weekly basis. Since the blog started we have cruised on Disney Cruise Line, gone to Tokyo Disneyland and to Disneyland in California!

  1. I went to Le Cellier yesterday after hearing about the vegan poutine, I notified my waitress that I have a dairy allergy as well as being vegan, she said “all vegans say that” and proceeded to serve me regular poutine with dairy cheese and meat gravy.. then when she came and took the plate from me after I had already taken a few bites she did not tell me what happened and I had to track down a manager in order to be told I was served dairy. Will not be back, it was a terrible experience and made me extremely ill
