Breakfast at The Wave… of American Flavors

Whenever we would be on trips to Disney World, we would always make sure we had at least one or two breakfasts during our stay. Now that we’re locals we aren’t really heading to Disney World for breakfast when we spend some time in the parks. Recently we changed that by planning a breakfast at Disney’s Contemporary Resort to dine at The Wave… of American Flavors. We’ve been to the wave for drinks and dinner, but not for breakfast. The Wave is located on the first floor of the Contemporary at the end of the check in desk.

The morning started out a little hectic and we ended up being about 20 minutes late to our dining reservation due to road closures on property. Luckily this isn’t a super popular breakfast spot so they didn’t really care since majority of the restaurant was empty. We checked in and were seated immediately. We told our server we were vegan and he went to double check with the chef for what we could have while we looked over the allergy menu.

He came back and said we could get the waffles vegan, a tofu scramble, breakfast potatoes and oatmeal. We ordered the kids Mickey Waffles, a tofu scramble with potatoes, and the Belgium Waffle.

Kids Vegan Mickey Waffles

I looked over the buffet they offer while we were there, it’s definitely a miss for vegans. I recommend ordering off the menu like we did. It looked to be just oatmeal and fruit for us.

Our food showed up and to our surprise the Belgium Waffle ended up just being Mickey Waffles. We assume they only have one “allergy” safe waffle maker so they just made those instead. These were okay. They were not the best Mickey Waffles we’ve had. They were incredibly thick and dense. They came with fruit, which is the same that came with the kids waffles.

Vegan Tofu Scramble with potatoes

The tofu scramble was really good! It’s always nice when it’s actually a scramble and not just cubes of sautéed tofu. They asked me if I had any vegetable preferences with the scramble and I said no. To my surprise they literally made what I always make at home; onion, mushroom and spinach. The scramble could have been a little better seasoned, but as a whole I really enjoyed it. This is one of my top favorite tofu scrambles on property, second to the scramble at Boma.

Vegan toast and butter

My scramble also came with vegan toast and vegan butter! If you’re heading here for breakfast, I definitely recommend this over the waffles. Our breakfast was relatively quick, the longest part was our server playing messenger instead of just sending the chef out to begin with. This was a great way to start our day before heading to the Magic Kingdom.

Back in 2014 I created Vegan Disney World after going to Walt Disney World several times and finding no resource for vegan options. Corey and I began this blog from our trips and have now moved closer to the mouse to eat around the parks on a weekly basis. Since the blog started we have cruised on Disney Cruise Line, gone to Tokyo Disneyland and to Disneyland in California!
