One of the big features of Disney World is there many world class resorts with incredible theming. One of the fun resort options is Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort which is themed just like the islands. Each section of the resort is named after various islands from Jamaica to Trinidad. Caribbean Beach has been undergoing some major construction for the last year, which is set to be done around fall of this year.
While the resort has been under construction the main dining area, Old Port Royale, has been a giant wedding tent featuring more of a buffet style dining experience. Luckily amidst all of this refurbishment a new quick service location opened in Trinidad South near the pool, Spyglass Grill.

Spyglass Grill is an outdoor dining area open for all three meals. While their breakfast didn’t appear to be vegan friendly (the oatmeal may be vegan safe), their lunch and dinner are. They have an on the menu vegan item!

We made our trek over to Trinidad South, which located in the section furthest from the lobby and where the Pirate rooms are. We asked the cast member if anything else could be vegan, but were told it was just the one item. Looking at the menu now they have added two vegetarian salads, which should be easily made vegan depending on the dressing.
We ordered our Vegan Black Bean Caribbean Tacos, one with a side of french fries and the other with a side of plantain and yuca chips.

These tacos were absolutely delicious. We weren’t expecting much given that they were just basic quick service tacos, but they were full of flavor and very filling. The black bean tacos came with a pickled vegetable slaw which added a nice tang to the tacos.

The yuca and plantain chips were a nice touch. They were super crunchy, as plantain chips typically are.

The fries were pretty basic, nothing special. We didn’t ask but they are probably from a shared fryer given how small this dining location is.
We were incredibly pleased with these tacos, I’ve even thought about going back for them many times. I wish they were in a park or a more easily accessible location, because they were great. They are super cheap (less than $10), a family was nice enough to “pay” for our meals with their left over dining credits, we just had to forfeit the margaritas to them.
Finding more and more items actually listed as vegan in Disney has been great. Let’s hope they continue this trend because these options are delicious and so easy to obtain!
Good to know! We’re staying there in July! 🙂
