Dockside Diner – Vegan Nachos

It’s no secret that Hollywood Studios is kind of a mess right now. With all the construction in preparation for Toy Story Land opening this summer (June 30th!) and for Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge in 2019. Hollywood Studios has always kind of been a mess for vegan options too. There has always been a vegan pizza option at Pizza Planet (RIP) which is now PizzeRizzo. But other than that vegan quick service was lacking. We know now that they offer a Vegan 5-Layer Rice Bowl at Fairfax Fare, and now Min and Bill’s is on the map for a great vegan option!

Dockside Diner

Dockside Diner is located at Echo Lake, by the big dinosaur, in Hollywood Studios. The menu is very small and looks like there is nothing vegan, let alone vegetarian here. But there is a secret at this location, the chili they use on the Loaded Chili Cheese Nachos is vegan! No where on the menu does it say this, which is super misleading if you don’t think to ask or already know.

We spoke with a coordinator when ordering here so we could check the ingredient binder. The chili is made of vegan crumbles and beans. The chili used here is the exact same one from Fairfax Fare. Which means it is also gluten free! He joked with us that we will think it’s meat but it is 100% vegan, it’s just that realistic.

He let the cast member know that we were ordering with that our nachos would not have sour cream or cheese and made sure she put it in the system that way. He then told us he would personally make ours and it would just take an extra minute or two.

Quickly he returned with our nachos and again warned us about how meaty it would be but that it is vegan! We all laughed then went to try our nachos.

The nachos were great! The chili was super flavorful and a large heaping of it too.

The guacamole was okay, it definitely did not seem like the pre-made bagged stuff, just not up to par with Choza de Margarita or La Cava del Tequila‘s guacamole.

The nachos overall were great. We took our time eating them, which in turn made the chips a little soggy as the chili was very wet. We really enjoyed these and would definitely get them again. They were big enough to share… if you’re into that.

Back in 2014 I created Vegan Disney World after going to Walt Disney World several times and finding no resource for vegan options. Corey and I began this blog from our trips and have now moved closer to the mouse to eat around the parks on a weekly basis. Since the blog started we have cruised on Disney Cruise Line, gone to Tokyo Disneyland and to Disneyland in California!

  1. Thanks for the heads up about the chili! I ran all three races for Dark Side weekend and Sunday was our day at Hollywood studios (because it’s the best place to take pictures with all the Star Wars medals). I wanted something quick and easy, not a sit down meal. When I walked up to order and asked for the nachos without cheese and sour cream, the cast member asked me if I was vegan, then said it was a very popular dish recently. I would have never thought to stop there without your post. It was exactly what I wanted after running the half marathon.
