Theme park food can often look like fried beige items, but a new green option has appeared at Connections Eatery in EPCOT. While it does have some fried toppings, it is not the focus of this new salad.
Connections Eatery is a quick service restaurant located in the World Celebration section of this park. Our black bean burger has been replaced with a new General Tso Tofu Salad. This salad features ‘Petite Kale Blend, Romaine, Broccoli Slaw, Red Bell Pepper, Mandarin Oranges, Edamame, Crispy Wontons, Warm Fried Tofu, General Tso’s Dressing’.
I was really excited to try this salad, I did find it interesting that they opted to do this as a salad and not a rice bowl, but we can all use some more leafy greens while on vacation. I didn’t love this salad. However, I do think I just had one on an off day after chatting with some of my Instagram followers about their experiences. So while I didn’t love it, I do wish to try it again because of others stating that theirs were good. So please take the following review with a grain of salt knowing mine may have just been bad.
I was looking forward to this salad as it was packed full of things I love. The fried tofu was the first “off” thing about it. Our tofu seemed as though it had been pressed beyond oblivion and had no moisture in it at all. The flavor was really nice, but I couldn’t get over the texture of the tofu itself. The breading was not crispy, but likely due to having sat in a sauce.
Our salad was completely over dressed and had caused the lettuce to wilt. There was a pool of dressing at the bottom of our bowl. Had it been a bit more fresh or with dressing on the side I think it would have been much better. The flavor of the general tso dressing offered a nice sweetness with a bit of a sesame flavor. My favorite part of this salad was the crispy wontons.
All in all this salad had potential for being great, but ours fell flat. As I said before, I definitely am willing to give it another try to see if mine truly was just an off day, if I have terrible luck with Disney salads, or if my next one is great. I will update whenever that time comes!
