There have been so many changes at the parks over the last few months that it has been hard to keep up with it all. Not only have so many changes been implemented in the parks (masks, social distancing, etc), but many menus have been shortened and lots of restaurants haven’t reopened.
With the quick service options that are open, they are only offering Mobile Ordering (which requires you to have the My Disney Experience app). If necessary you can still order in person, which is ideal for many allergy families.
Currently (as of August 26th 2020) there are only 3 quick service locations open in Magic Kingdom: Cosmic Ray’s Starlight Cafe, Pecos Bill Tall Tale Inn, and Pinocchio Village Haus.
We recently went to the Magic Kingdom for the day and decided to give Pinocchio Village Haus in Fantasyland a try for lunch. It had been a few years since we’d eaten here, and before the closure they had a new vegan option. Since reopening, they have pulled that option (it was a basic pasta marinara) and replaced it with a Plant-based “Cheese” Pizza.
This was super easy to order on the app, I ran into an issue when there was no kids plant based option outside of a Uncrustable, which doesn’t work for us with a peanut allergy child. However, while checking the menu on the app I noticed they have a section for allergy ordering, I went ahead and ordered a kids Milk Allergy Cheese Pizza.
Once I ordered I marked that I was there (prepare my order), I went to the door marked for entry, which is by “it’s a small world” and not the normal entry. Typically you will wait here until your order is ready, however, I had to speak with a coordinator to check on the kids allergy crust.
A cast member walked me inside and I was able to speak with someone there. Once I spoke with the coordinator I was informed that the kids allergy crust contains egg, he told me they would just use the plant-based crust for it and let the back know.
We sat at a table and waited for quite a while, which is normal for allergy/special requests. We finally got the notification that the food was ready and went to the window that was designated on my app. I spoke with the cast member to retrieve my order and we found out they had only made the kids entree and not the adult one as well. A manager came out to apologize and ended up comping our meal because of how long it had taken/will take to remake everything. He said he would find us and bring our food when it was ready.
From ordering/marking that we were there to actually receiving our food it was 35 minutes. I would say the average wait for our typical orders are about 15-20 minutes.
The pizzas looked fine, I didn’t have incredibly high hopes as they had vegan pizza in the past that was also just fine. The one thing I found the most interesting immediately was that the two pizzas had different cheese. They were both obviously vegan cheese, but not the same brand. It appeared Finn’s was Daiya while mine looked to be Follow Your Heart.
The pizza tasted alright. By the time I ate mine it was cold (which very much could be my own fault due to photos and that the AC was blasting on our table). The cheese mostly was not melted, the sauce was generic tomato-y. The old version was a Margarita Pizza which helped make it a bit more interesting, but this wasn’t terrible. I wouldn’t praise it, but I also would eat it again. My cheese was definitely Follow Your Heart upon tasting.
The crust was just a basic flatbread style. It wasn’t overly crunchy, other than on some spots on the edge, and held up pretty well.
The kids option comes with two sides. They have GOGO Squeeze and Fries for sides for kids that are vegan. I was told that the fries were in a shared fryer but you can request them to be baked, but it will take extra time.
In all honesty, I feel like the kids option is the better bang for your buck, you get half a pizza, two sides and a drink for $4 less than the adult pizza.
Since the options at Magic Kingdom are pretty limited right now, I’m thankful they have a variety for us. I would get the pizza again, but I would just skip the mobile order and request to order in person if getting a kids meal again. If just getting the adult one, the mobile ordering is fine.
