Capt. Cook’s for Dinner

Disney’s Polynesian Resort has several restaurants and bars that we love to visit. We recently went to check out what Capt. Cook’s, the resorts quick service, has to offer during lunch/dinner. We had previously done breakfast here, where we got the Power Breakfast Bowl.

We looked on the menu and saw they had three vegan options when we were there. The Pan Asian Noodles with Vegetables and the Roasted Red Pepper and Arugula Burger. We had high hopes for this meal based on the descriptions alone. We took a table marker and grabbed a table outside with a view of the pool and Trader Sam’s Tiki Terrace.

Our food came out pretty fast, maybe a five minute wait. Our first impression of the noodles was not good. It was a mix of noodles, chopped peppers, broccoli, baby corn, onions, water chestnuts, edamame, and tofu.

First off, it was all sitting in so much sauce that it was almost like soup on the plate it was served on. The sauce was on the sweet side, which I did not like, similar to a sweet teriyaki. The soft tofu was not cooked. I think they just cubed it and warmed it when it was mixed in with the soupy noodles. I can’t really say anything good about this dish. We hate wasting food but, we barely ate this one.

I don’t usually get excited about burgers but the description of the Roasted Red Pepper and Arugula Burger got me. It is a Beyond Burger patty topped with arugula, roasted red pepper-tomato chutney on a vegan brioche bun served with fries. We were underwhelmed, again. It was just okay.

I did like the roasted pepper chutney which was a generous topping but, it was kind of weird on the burger and it lacked arugula with just a few pieces. There was nothing else on it. I basically just tasted the chutney.

If I was at the Polynesian Village Resort craving a burger (and didn’t want to leave) I would maybe get this again and ask for other topping/condiment options. Or, I would just take a quick walk (or monorail) to The Grand Floridian and get a better burger at either Gasparilla Island Grill or the Grand Floridian Cafe.

There is a Superfoods Salad on the menu that I would try next time. Food aside, this is a beautiful resort definitely worth a visit.
