It’s finally happened! Magic Kingdom has a legit vegan burger in the park again, vegans everywhere can rejoice! After Tomorrowland’s Cosmic Ray’s got rid of it’s terrible excuse for a falafel burger (sorry to people who actually enjoyed it, we just couldn’t mesh with falafel and mustard or ketchup), vegans were wondering where we could find a solid veggie burger in Magic Kingdom. We have been asked at least once a week for months about where to find one in this park specifically from readers. Once Cosmic Ray’s pulled the falafel burger they added a secret off-menu vegan Gardenburger Malibu patty available, which is still a great option for people looking for a veggie burger made with actual vegetables, but is hard if you don’t know to ask for it.
That’s where Pecos Bill Tall Tale Inn & Cafe comes in! Pecos Bill is located in Magic Kingdom’s Frontierland and has always been a favorite of ours with their Vegetable Rice Bowl. But now on the menu just below our beloved bowl is the Plant-Based Southwest Cheeseburger. WHAT! On the menu it states it is topped with Vegan Jalapeño Jack Cheese and Vegan Avocado Aioli on a toasted bun.
We got in line and asked the cashier if the burger was vegan as is, she called a coordinator over who confirmed the whole burger is vegan off the menu! Since these don’t require an allergy coordinator to make, the wait time was pretty low, still about 10 minutes, but we’ve experienced much worse. Once we got the burgers we sat down to enjoy them. Pecos Bill offers a huge toppings bar with anything from tomatoes to lettuce to salsas and more. Our burgers seemed fine as is with the cheese and aioli so we didn’t even think about heading over there to add to it.
The burgers themselves were excellent. The burger was a Beyond Burger from Beyond Meat, which has a more “meaty” flavor than a vegetable burger. Some people love these and some people hate them, we’re on the love side. It was cooked well and had a great flavor to it.
The cheese didn’t look melted, but it was definitely gooey and not just raw cold vegan cheese. We’ve noticed throughout property that some chefs understand how to melt vegan cheese while others don’t. We think the cheese was a Follow your Heart Pepperjack slice. It had a good heat to it and really made the burger have that southwest feel.
The aioli was a nice touch to the heat of the pepperjack, it helped to keep the burger at a good mild heat level. It had a strong avocado flavor and was super creamy.
For our sides we got the chips, which come with the burger, and swapped the other one for a side of black beans. The chips were pretty standard tortilla chips, nothing fancy. They were very mild with salt too. The beans were great, they had a lot of flavor and the portion size was huge. If you want to get the bigger bang for your buck, go for the beans. I ended up scooping the chips into the beans, so you could also do that and make little nachos if you wanted.
We are so stoked that Disney added this vegan-as-is option to Magic Kingdom. This is a great new addition that has been much needed for a long time. We look forward to seeing what other new surprises Disney has for us these next few months.

Do you know if this is still available during COVID? As I know they have abbreviated menus, but going next week and would love to try this!
I heard from a reader it was not, and that only the vegetable bowl was. The app only shows the bowl as being the plant based option to order.

Nope! Just the pepper jack cheese has some heat.
Can the cheese be substituted for a different kind of cheese? I don’t like spicy foods. Also, what is the price for this burger? Do they have this as an option for MVMCP?
You would just have to remove the cheese. They don’t have other vegan cheese here. And yes it’s offered all the time, parties included!
Any idea how they cook their vegan/beyond burger? Is it cooked in oil?
They cook it on a flattop. They have a designated area for them.

Just got back from taking our 5-year old to Disney and tried this burger at Pecos Bill’s. It was remarkable. I actually went back the next day and got another one. Looking it up now where I can buy near me!
I saw on touringplans.com that Pecos Bill’s now offers cauliflower tacos. Any idea if these are or can be vegan?
The breading is not vegan on the cauliflower.
