The Edison – Impossible Burger

This review talks about the Impossible Foods Impossible Burger. There is quite a bit of controversy regarding this product. There is a great post about it on Vegan Mos. We hope you make your own decision about whether or not you choose to support this company, as you can tell, we choose to.

The Edison is one of Disney Spring’s newest additions. The Edison is located in the Landings section of Disney Springs. It offers a truly unique dining location that is open for lunch, dinner and late night entertainment. It’s best described as an Industrial Gothic design with costumes reflecting that and 1920’s flappers. After 10pm they enforce a dress code similar to many Signature Dining restaurants and it becomes an Adult-Only cabaret.

The Edison

We went for lunch recently with no reservation, during spring break month, and were seated immediately. The atmosphere here is incredible, you’re dining in an abandoned warehouse which a huge staircase and bar that fills a whole wall. We saw there was outdoor seating but didn’t step out to see it.

Once seated we spoke with our server about being vegan. We knew they had the Impossible Burger on the menu and there had been some miscommunication in the past regarding the bun. She assured us that the whole burger was vegan as is so we ordered those with a side of fries and a couple Electric Mules. When ordering the burgers she asked us how we wanted them cooked, we requested medium. To be honest, I have no idea what that even means with a vegan burger, but I have read that the Impossible Burger can be over cooked.

Electric Mule

The Mules were great, they had strawberry juice in them which added a fun flavor. We all ordered them so I don’t have any other drinks to recommend, yet.

Impossible Burger with Fries

The burger arrived and looked awesome. I was hesitant to get it because I didn’t really care for it when I had it at another restaurant. I felt that this one was amazing. It’s crazy how realistic these things are. I may not have had a real meat burger in almost a decade, but from what I remember, this was it! These burgers are meant to taste like meat, not vegetable burgers. Similar to the Beyond Burger, which we also love. Our friend Malory just ordered fries as she feels the Impossible Burger reminders her of liver, which I have never had to compare.

Impossible Burger

The burger was topped with lettuce, tomato, and house made pickles. We were given ketchup for our fries, had our server came back/I thought about it when the burgers were dropped off I would have asked for mustard. I ate my burger condiment free and still loved it.

Impossible Burger and Fries

The fries were incredible. They were huge for one, but they were so crispy and well seasoned. Some of the best french fries I’ve had in a long time.

Just to note, we had two children under 2 with us at lunch. They don’t have anything vegan for kids on the menu, our server offered to make a salad for them but we ended up just ordering them some avocado and strawberries.

The Edison

As a whole we really enjoyed our time at The Edison. The burger is on the lunch menu, however we have heard you can also get it at dinner. We will definitely be going back here for the burger, but also to check out the night time entertainment!

Review from March 2018

Back in 2014 I created Vegan Disney World after going to Walt Disney World several times and finding no resource for vegan options. Corey and I began this blog from our trips and have now moved closer to the mouse to eat around the parks on a weekly basis. Since the blog started we have cruised on Disney Cruise Line, gone to Tokyo Disneyland and to Disneyland in California!

  1. The Impossible Burger is not vegan since it was tested on animals that were later killed. Even the manufacturer doesn’t call it vegan, but almost every restaurant does. I ate it a few times before I knew that and thought it was delicious. Better than eating a cow burger, but I prefer the Beyond Burger and wish restaurants would carry this instead of the Impossible Burger.

    1. Hey Jeff, we know this is a sensitive product among us vegans. We have done our research but still support the brand. We always tell people to do whatever you are comfortable with in regards to eating this burger. Thank you for your comment, I hope it sparks people to read up on it and make their own decision.

      1. Agree. I am concerned that if vegans start making concessions around animal testing, then this will continue with other food products, which is why I’m boycotting it.

That being said, veganism is a journey and none of us are perfect, so we just do the best we can.

By the way, we just got back from a week at WDW and used your website extensively to find good vegan food. Thanks for all the help.

      2. That’s a great point, I appreciate that comment.

Happy we were able to help, hope you ate well!

    2. But by those standards the Beyond Burger is not vegan either, as it contains algal oil (also tested on animals). Matter of fact Xantham Gum, Whole and milled flax seeds, soy oil, and pea protein concentrate, and tons of other ingredients in otherwise vegan foods, were also tested on animals.

Yes, an ingredient in the Impossibe Burger was tested on animals (or it would never made it to market). And although it is bad that some of our food is tested on animals, or that animals are killed in the production of vegan foods. The Impossible Burger (and the Beyond Burger) have the opportunity to change minds of omnivores – and that could save a large number of animals.
