Trader Sam’s Tiki Terrace

This review reflects our experience in September 2015.

Some evenings in Disney World you may just need to take a break after a long day. One of the best ways to do so is to head to a resort lounge for some live music, snacks and maybe even some drinks. One of our favorite places to hangout is Trader Sam’s Tiki Terrace. This part of Trader Sam’s is located outside at Disney’s Polynesian Resort. Many people use this as a waiting area for Trader Sam’s Grog Grotto, which is much smaller and has more unique theming. Trader Sam’s Tiki Terrace is very easy to find, it sits just around the corner from Captain Cook’s and Trader Sam’s Grog Grotto.

While at Trader Sam’s Tiki Terrace you can enjoy live music, watch Wishes and enjoy a few drinks that aren’t offered inside at the Grog Grotto. This outdoor lounge is much more laid back and is a great place to hangout after a long day with a beautiful view.

Upon searching the menu we came across the Spikey Pineapple. I asked our server if the Pineapple Soft-serve was Dole and she said yes! So being a Dole Whip fan I felt I had to order this, you can’t go wrong with rum and Dole soft serve.

The drink was pretty good. If you’ve had a rum Dole Whip from Tamu Tamu in Animal Kingdom, then you’ve had basically the same thing. It reminded me of a melted Dole Whip, but I still enjoyed it. It was a nice cold treat after a long hot day in the parks. We were getting hungry while waiting for Wishes so we asked our server about vegan food options, she told us they could typically make tofu lettuce wraps or veggie sushi. She said she would double check and let us know what they could do. When she returned she said they were out of tofu (how?) so they couldn’t do the wraps, but we could get a veggie sushi roll.

The sushi roll is actually made at Kona Cafe and is offered on the dinner menu but must be requested vegan. The roll looked beautiful and was topped with red pepper and avocado, on the inside we found cucumber, asparagus and carrot.

The sushi was pretty tasty and was very fresh. It was a perfect snack split between the two of us. We enjoyed our drinks and watched Wishes, with music included, and then continued to enjoy the live music. This is a great spot for anyone looking for a unique place to relax and enjoy some snacks. Hopefully next time we can try the lettuce wraps!

Would we go back?
Yes, we really enjoyed the environment, our server was great and the food and drinks were delicious.

Back in 2014 I created Vegan Disney World after going to Walt Disney World several times and finding no resource for vegan options. Corey and I began this blog from our trips and have now moved closer to the mouse to eat around the parks on a weekly basis. Since the blog started we have cruised on Disney Cruise Line, gone to Tokyo Disneyland and to Disneyland in California!
