This review reflects our experience in April of 2015.
Have you watched Beauty and the Beast and been jealous of Beast’s Castle? Well now you can experience it at Be Our Guest restaurant in Disney’s Magic Kingdom. It is quite large, with three uniquely themed rooms featuring an elegant ballroom and the west wing of the castle. During breakfast and lunch hours, Be Our Guest is quick-service, but functions as a table-service restaurant for dinner. The cuisine is French themed and French wine and beer are available at dinner. This is the only restaurant where you can find alcohol inside the Magic Kingdom.
Be Our Guest recently started serving a quick service breakfast, and we were lucky enough to get an early morning reservation. The regular adult menu did not have any vegan offerings, however, on the children’s menu, there is oatmeal offered with soymilk, which may be vegan. We had planned to speak to a chef upon arrival, but noticed a pre-order option when logged into My Disney Experience. This offered an “allergy-friendly” menu. When checking off allergies for milk and eggs, an option for waffles and fruit appeared. We pre-ordered waffles and fruit and hoped for the best!
Upon arriving, we were directed to the pre-order line. I asked the Cast Member if the waffles were vegan, and she told us yes. We paid and were given a magical rose, which would help our server find our table. One of our dining partners chose a table in the Beast’s West Wing. This room is smaller, dark, and richly themed and even includes thunder, lightning, and a portrait that shifts from Prince to Beast.
A few minutes later, our food arrived. My husband (also vegan) and I were pleasantly surprised to each receive a plate of allergy-flagged slices of sweet breads.I asked the server if the loaves were vegan, after checking he told us that they were! The breads were from Erin McKenna Bakery NYC and included lemon cake with icing, a chocolate chip loaf, and a cinnamon sugar toasty loaf.
The waffles were the standard “allergy” (non-Mickey) waffles found elsewhere in the park. The fruit was a good sized portion with a nice variety. The surprise sweet breads were the best part, although this made the meal quite heavy on starch and sugar, but still delicious!
Would we go back?
Probably not, but mostly because the vegan choices were too sweet for our taste. We were impressed by the quality, however.
