Another vegan burger had been replaced at EPCOT, but this one is basically the same as before but without the patty. Over in the America Pavilion you can find Regal Eagle Smokehouse, which is the quick service location for this area. Here you will find the new BBQ Jackfruit Sandwich.
The previous option here was a BBQ Jackfruit Burger which had a Beyond Burger topped with a BBQ jackfruit and a vegan mayo. The new BBQ Jackfruit Sandwich is just jackfruit with a vegan creamy coleslaw and pickles on Texas Toast. Unfortunately, when I went to try this they were out of the vegan Texas toast so I was given the sandwich on a kids burger bun.
Thank you to Princess and the Bear (find their YouTube by clicking on their name) for the photo of how this is supposed to look with the Texas Toast. I was pretty disappointed when my food came out and I was not told beforehand that my sandwich was going to be not as advertised. That being said, these things do happen and so this is the reality of ordering food at Walt Disney World.
Now despite my sandwich not being on the proper bread, the flavors were actually very good. The burger here before was never one of my favorites, and often times I feel Disney jackfruit is overcooked and too acidic, but I actually really enjoyed it this time. The jackfruit was aplenty in my tiny bun and the flavors of the sweet bbq sauce with the tangy pickles and creamy coleslaw just went really well together. It reminded me of summer on a sandwich.
I really wish I was able to get it with the proper bread because the Texas Toast adds a nice garlicky element. I also feel my portion was very small compared to how the sandwich would be on the toast. But overall, I am willing to go again to try it with the toast as I enjoyed it on the bun. My biggest issue with the bun was that all my filling fell out so I wasn’t really able to enjoy it as a sandwich.
We do have several sides here to choose from, we can have fries, coleslaw, or watermelon. Since it was a very steamy June day I opted for the watermelon and it really hit the spot. Most of the pieces were ripe and juicy and it was a nice way to hydrate without chugging my water.
They do also have a BBQ sauce bar, I got a photo of the ingredients so you know which ones you can enjoy in addition to the sandwich as sometimes it’s nice to add more flavors.
I will try this option again at some point since I did enjoy it. If you’re a fan of jackfruit I really think you’d like this option. I do wish we had some protein in this as I fear it won’t keep many people full, but it did taste really good.
