New Toasted “Lobster” Roll at Hollywood Studios

There’s a new vegan option in the parks, and it’s quite a unique one. At Rosie’s All-American Cafe in Disney’s Hollywood Studios they finally added a vegan option to their menu!

Rosie’s All-American Cafe is located at Sunset Ranch, next to the Tower of Terror. Pre-pandemic, when Fairfax Fare was open, you could find a vegan option in this area in the form of a Southwest Bowl. When the parks reopened, Fairfax Fare didn’t reopen and it left this side of the park with no vegan option.

Just like many other locations, Rosie’s is utilizing the mobile ordering option. This area can be very busy, so if you are with other people, be sure to find a table while waiting for your food to be prepared. I encountered a very busy dining area with little to no tables available at all. Since they’re only seating every other table due to social distancing, and Rosie’s being a popular spot for lunch, plan accordingly.

The brand new Toasted “Lobster” Roll features Hearts of Palm, Sweet Apples, Celery, and an Old Bay Creamy Dressing. This sandwich comes with house made chips as well.

The bread in this sandwich was delicious. It was toasted very well, and was overall a really nice bread. Mine was unfortunately cut all the way in half, which made it a very messy and hard to eat. Most of the “lobster” salad fell out while I was eating it. Our friends got the same sandwich later on and said theirs was cut to stuff but not in half.

The hearts of palm were strong in this, which I am cool with because I love hearts of palm. If you’ve never had hearts of palm before, it is slightly acidic and has a firmness to it, which is why it’s often used as faux seafood items. They’re similar to jarred artichoke hearts, but with a firmer texture. I didn’t notice any apples or celery while I was eating it, I kept looking for what would be them, and didn’t see it either.

The flavor of the dressing was very dill heavy, and a mild old bay flavoring. As a whole I really enjoyed this, but I don’t have the comparison of a traditional lobster roll to go off of. I would assume this is actually nothing like that, but as someone who doesn’t eat lobster, it works for me!

Most of my fillings fell out onto the house made chips, which actually worked in my favor. I turned them into a “lobster” salad nachos when I finished the bread, and it worked out well.

I’m pretty impressed with this sandwich. I think it’s a really unique option in the parks, and I really appreciate the addition of an option that doesn’t use faux meat. If you give this a try, bring some utensils and grab plenty of napkins!

Also to note, there are no vegan kids options at this location.

Back in 2014 I created Vegan Disney World after going to Walt Disney World several times and finding no resource for vegan options. Corey and I began this blog from our trips and have now moved closer to the mouse to eat around the parks on a weekly basis. Since the blog started we have cruised on Disney Cruise Line, gone to Tokyo Disneyland and to Disneyland in California!

  1. So, first, thank you for all the great reviews…we do appreciate your site and efforts. However, a warning to other readers who know what seafood tastes like and / or don’t like eating salt bombs …these faux lobster rolls are completely disgusting. We unfortunately ordered one for each of us (we normally try something first) based upon the review and we’re so disappointed. The hearts of palm are pickled and this is a salty mess of a lame attempt …and expensive waste of money. There is so little old bay (or whatever seasoning) that it simply tasted like a pickled salty hearts of palm nightmare. This is absolutely nothing nothing nothing like lobster roll flavor. Both rolls were trashed as even the roll wasn’t salvageable. Don’t do it …trust ….just don’t. Make your own at home with steamed cauliflower, v Mayo, chopped celery and old bay …yum!
