This review reflects our experience in September of 2015.
If you’re looking for a rootin’ tootin’ good time you should head over to Whispering Canyon Cafe in Disney’s Wilderness Lodge. Whispering Canyon Cafe is located next to the lobby of Wilderness Lodge and offers more than just a dining experience.
At Whispering Canyon the cast members are more theatrical and the dining experience is very loud. When you’re here you have the option of taking part in the madness or just spectating. If you choose to get involved you may have to bring ketchup to guests who scream for it among other things.
We opted to watch from the fence because we just wanted to eat our food in peace. Our server still played along with us and made sure we had a good time. We spoke with our waiter about the vegetarian item on the menu, Skillet-Fired Red Quinoa Cakes, and were told that it is vegan without the cucumber yogurt sauce. I asked about vegan milk shakes as they have shakes on the menu and was told they can not do them because they actually use a shake machine and don’t hand make them.
The Skillet-Fired Red Quinoa Cakes come with a Edamame Salsa and Organic Greens. The quinoa cakes were pretty dry and had a super strong flavor of cumin. We feel that if we could have had the sauce they would have been much better to help them not be so dry. The flavor as a whole was pretty good and reminded us of taco seasoning. The cakes themselves kind of fell apart as we ate them.
The edamame salsa was really good. In the salsa was cucumber, corn, onion and edamame. It seemed that the salsa was vinegar based and was a nice and light side to the quinoa.
The salad with the dish also seemed to be vinegar based. The greens in the salad were very good and seemed very fresh. We really preferred the sides of the dish more than the main quinoa cakes. As a whole we felt this dish was pretty forgettable.
Would we go back?
Not any time soon, maybe if they change the vegetarian item.

Did they change their milkshake set up? We’ve been there twice with my dairy allergic daughter and it was her favorite place because of the bottomless nondairy milkshakes. This was 2012 & 2014. That’s a real bummer if so. They did vegan butter and cornbread for her too if I recall correctly. My quinoa cakes were also way better than those looked. Sorry it wasn’t great!
Yes I believe they changed the milkshakes, I had a friend go a few years ago and get a shake and we were told they couldn’t do it. We were pretty bummed about it.
Thank you for this review! We are heading down to Florida in a few months and I’ve heard this spot can be fun for the kids but I also want to have enjoyable food. I think we will pass.
