A New Menu at Pecos Bill Tall Tale Inn and Cafe

This review reflects our experience in October of 2015.

Dining as a vegan in Disney’s Magic Kingdom can sometimes be hard. Previously our only options for quick service was veggie burgers and if you’re lucky you can get the quinoa from Be Our Guest. In October 2015 Pecos Bill Tall Tale Inn and Cafe in Frontierland revamped their menu and removed the veggie burger!

Pecos Bill’s new menu features more of a tex mex style and now has a Roasted Vegetable Rice Bowl. The vegetable bowl is also available on the kids menu! The new item includes roasted zucchini, squash, black beans and a cilantro rice. The cilantro rice is not vegan as it contains cheese. You can request plain white rice with your bowl instead to make it vegan.

The bowl is actually larger than it appears. The vegetables are roasted with oil and the tortilla chips on top are vegan as well. When we first ordered we didn’t realize the rice came with a cilantro pesto so we had to send it back and get new bowls with the plain white rice. Once we got our bowls it was time to head to the toppings bar!

The best part about Pecos Bill’s has always been the toppings bar. The new toppings bar for this restaurant includes roasted peppers, raw onions, banana peppers, roasted corn salsa, pico de gallo, salsa verde, tomato salsa and guacamole.

We were so happy that most of the items on the toppings bar were salsas that actually looked fresh! The roasted jalapeno was a nice addition to add to the bowl for some extra food. We really enjoyed the roasted corn salsa and the salsa verde sauce. I’m always really hesitant to get guacamole in Disney World as many times it’s the gross bagged guacamole taste. This guacamole is in fact the gross bagged kind, but hey there’s guacamole on the toppings bar!

The bowls were $10 each, which seems expensive, but it is Disney pricing and this was a super filling meal. You can add as much as you want from the toppings bar so you can make sure to get your moneys worth. This was a huge improvement from the previous veggie burger. We’re so happy that there is now an acceptable quick service item in Magic Kingdom.

Would we go back?
Yes! It’s a pretty cheap, tasty and filling option while in Magic Kingdom.

Back in 2014 I created Vegan Disney World after going to Walt Disney World several times and finding no resource for vegan options. Corey and I began this blog from our trips and have now moved closer to the mouse to eat around the parks on a weekly basis. Since the blog started we have cruised on Disney Cruise Line, gone to Tokyo Disneyland and to Disneyland in California!
