‘Fish are friends, not food’ is one of the best lines in Finding Nemo. If this is something you also believe, then Coral Reef is a great restaurant for you. Coral Reef is located slightly to the right of The Seas With Nemo and Friends in Epcot’s Future World. This review is from our experience in November 2014.
Coral Reef is a seafood restaurant, which may turn away many vegetarians and vegans. However, on the menu they have a vegan as-is item! Marinated Grilled Vegetables and Vegetarian Chick’n Breast is on the menu for both lunch and dinner. This item features a breaded Gardein™ Chick’n breast.
When you walk into the restaurant you immediately feel like you are dining under the ocean. The lights are dimmed and the ceiling reflects light and water fragments. There are three tiers of tables with the lowest being next to the aquarium. If you are seated up higher you get a great view of all the aquatic life in there.
When we first spoke with our waiter we inquired about Earth Balance butter for our complimentary bread and butter. We have dined here before so we hoped we could get it again. Our waiter was unsure then returned with our vegan butter and bread. This is one of the few places we have found Earth Balance vegan butter. We both ordered the Chick’n Breast and anxiously awaited our delicious meal.
The grilled vegetables in the dish were tomato, pepper, mushroom, onion, yellow squash and zucchini. The chick’n breast seemed to be panko breaded. The chick’n breast was firm and not completely full of flavor. The Chick’n Breast with the tomato sauce was great. The vegetables were grilled perfectly so they weren’t mushy.
The tomato sauce was cold, which was a surprise as the rest of the meal was very warm. The sauce was also pretty citrusy/tangy but was still very good, while the black rice didn’t seem to have any seasoning on it. The dish as a whole is absolutely delicious. All of the flavors blend together so well and the crunch of the pine nuts is a great addition. If you are heading to Epcot and looking for a simple delicious vegan meal, this is the one you should try.
Would we go back?
Always, this is an incredibly delicious meal. Everything we have had here has been great. The service and food is worth it.
