Safari + Pizza = Pizzafari

This review reflects our experience in November of 2014.

When you’re on a safari in Africa I’m sure you’re pretty much expecting to get a pizza, right? Luckily when on safari in Disney’s Animal Kingdom that is possible! Pizzafari is a quick service restaurant that specializes in, you guessed it, pizza and is located just outside of Africa in the Animal Kingdom. Since we both love pizza we decided to give Pizzafari a try while visiting Disney World in November (2014). Pizzafari offers indoor and covered outdoor seating, this is a great spot to take a mid day break out of the sun.

When we talked to a cast member while ordering we were told that all of the pizzas at Pizzafari are pre-made but we are able to get a vegan pizza. She told us that we could get our pizza on the bread used for the Italian Sandwich which is muffuletta bread. Pizzafari carries Daiya Vegan Cheese so we were happy we could have a gooey cheesy pizza! Each item on the menu comes with a side, unfortunately all of the salads at Pizzafari are also pre-made which means there is no vegan option if you want a salad. The side options for vegans include grapes, carrots or Lay’s potato chips.

Our veggie pizza came out really quickly, but that may have been because we arrived before the lunch rush. We were a little hesitant about having our pizza on bread but we were not disappointed. The bread had a crust all on the bottom that helped to keep the pizza firm when eating it. Since it was bread instead of dough it helped soaked up some of the sauce to keep it full of flavor.

The vegetables on the pizza (pepper, onion, tomato and mushroom) seemed to have been sautéed prior to cooking the pizza which added a lot of flavor. The veggies had a strong garlic taste as well as obviously being seasoned. There was plenty of sauce on this pizza and the sauce was packed with tomato flavor. We really like Daiya cheese so we were happy to have this as an option on our pizza. This was the best quick service pizza I have had in Disney World. Next time we’re on safari, we’ll definitely be getting pizza again.

Would we go back?
Yes, this may be the best pizza I’ve had in Disney World.

Back in 2014 I created Vegan Disney World after going to Walt Disney World several times and finding no resource for vegan options. Corey and I began this blog from our trips and have now moved closer to the mouse to eat around the parks on a weekly basis. Since the blog started we have cruised on Disney Cruise Line, gone to Tokyo Disneyland and to Disneyland in California!

  1. So It is 2018 and I went and they had no available options for the veggie pizza except for the cheese becaude everything is already premade. It really sucks because instead of adding they are taking away. What I actually got them to do was to do the pita bread with marinara sauce, vegan cheese and a side of spinach because all their vegetables are contaminated.

    1. Thanks for this Maya. We knew they were doing the pita bread but didn’t know about the veggies!

  2. I just found your blog today, and I LOVE IT! I’m not vegan myself, but am visiting in March with my vegan BFF, our spouses, and a couple other friends. Your blog is such a great resource! I love that you give such detailed reviews and include photos. I enjoy reading your posts just to know more about Disney! BTW I did share your blog with my vegan BFF – hopefully we will be able to test out some of these vegan meals in a couple of months!

    1. We are so happy to hear this! Our goal is to make Disney easier for those with a vegan diet, your friend won’t leave hungry, We try to keep this as up to date as possible so be sure to check back during your trip. Have a great time!

    2. DO NOT GO HERE!! The menu must have completely changed, basically all they had when I went (June 2017) was pre-made flatbreads. No sign of any vegan cheese. At the very least you might be able to get the kids menu pasta, but even that I’m not sure of.
