A few months ago Pecos Bill Tall Tale Inn and Cafe in Magic Kingdom got a menu facelift and we got all kinds of new options. I am here to report that the delicious vegan as is Masa Flatbread has been replaced with a new option, the Plant-Based Rice Bowl. While I am sad to see the Masa Flatbread gone, as it was a really unique and delicious option, I am happy to see we have a new version of an old dish.

The new Plant-based Rice Bowl comes with Impossible Meatballs in a Red Chile Tomato Sauce, Pinto Beans, Cilantro-Lime Rice, Cowboy Caviar, and a Lime “Crema” As you can see from my photo, just like my first experience here with the new menu, they forgot my crema. I did not bother going back to get it as they changed how you pick up mobile orders and it was a mess up there. Also having had it on previous meals here, I don’t think it would add or take away much by not having it.

The bowl was heavy with food and there were four Impossible Meatballs hiding in it. The Red Chile Tomato Sauce tasted like an enchilada sauce. It was good, but in my opinion, meatballs are a weird protein in this dish. They were obviously the pre-made ones you can buy in the stores, which is fine, it was just using a meatball in a Tex-Mex dish felt like a choice. I am happy we have a more prominent protein though, so I won’t knock it too much. They had a nice texture and the meatballs that had the sauce on them were good.

The bowl was full with the cilantro rice and the pinto beans. If you ate it all separately you would really taste each component, but together it kind of blends together. The rice had a nice firm bite to it and the beans were seasoned well. The cowboy caviar is a type of salsa, and it added some freshness to the bowl. I’ think the crema would have been nice to have as well, but it enjoyable without it.’m sure the crema adds some more of that brightness as well, but is likely unnoticed once mixed in.

While I was sad to see the Masa Flatbread already be replaced, I am happy to report that this option was still very enjoyable and Pecos Bills would still be my top choice for a quick service in Magic Kingdom. You can also still get the other bowls modified from my previous post here, however, you have to order those in person as the My Disney Experience Mobile Ordering app still won’t allow you to order them without animal protein.
