Pecos Bill has a new menu!

MASA FLATBREAD HAS BEEN REPLACED WITH PLANT-BASED RICE BOWL HERE.

We all know that finding food at Magic Kingdom is not the most fun. The options they have for quick service meals often leave everyone, apparently not just us vegans, feeling a little less than thrilled. So I am very happy to announce that Pecos Bill Tall Tale Inn & Cafe in Frontierland has received a menu makeover for the better. This used to be one of my most recommended places for quick meals in Magic Kingdom, but it had a bit of a fall from grace over the years.

Pecos Bill

This restaurant has had its ups and downs, and unfortunately still never reopened the toppings bar post 2020. However, I don’t think you’ll be missing it so much anymore with these new options. There is a brand new vegan (and gluten free!) option on the menu and THREE more we can modify to be made vegan.

The brand new Grilled Masa Flatbread is one to try! This gluten free flatbread comes topped with chopped sweet potatoes, pinto beans, vegan pepper jack cheese, shredded lettuce, pico de gallo, and a plant-based lime crema. When we ordered ours we had a bit of a slip up which I believe was due to our other modifications, so ours came without the crema on it. Since we had it on the side (which I’ll explain later) I just drizzled it on myself.

Grilled Masa Flatbread

The flatbread holds up really well and has a nice bite to it. The vegan cheese on it was actually melted, and there was tons of beans. The lettuce was crispy and everything about this just seemed so new and fresh. I really loved this flatbread and will be getting it again. The flavors were great and it was an easy option to share.

When I ordered this I was asked what protein I wanted to add to it, I obviously said I just wanted it plant-based as is. So be aware if they ask you that they’re not asking if you want vegan chicken on it.

There is a new “create your own” section on the menu, and this is where you will find the modifiable options. We got the Rice Bowl without a protein (as the only ones listed were animal based) and ordered it without the Queso Fresco. The bowl comes with cilantro-lime rice, pinto beans, and cowboy caviar (salsa).

Rice Bowl – No Queso Fresco

The bowl wasn’t amazing, but it was better than it used to be. I ended up drizzling some of the crema on it and that was really nice. You can also order guacamole, but it’s just one of those little pre-made cups of it that I don’t care for personally. I do wish it came with some lettuce or tortilla strips, it was definitely missing something crunchy. The portion was large and it was a flavorful bowl.

Rice Bowl – no Queso Fresco

Similar to the Rice Bowl, you can order the Nacho Bowl the same way. We did not do that at this time, but you can order this without a protein and without the chipotle queso. The tortilla chips come with pinto beans and pico de gallo. This would be a nice little shareable snack rather than a meal.

The Southwest Caesar Salad is the other option we can modify. You need to order it without a protein and queso fresco, and then have them swap the creamy salsa verde dressing for the Plant-based Lime Crema. The salad comes with pico de gallo, pepitas, and tortilla strips.

Southwest (no) Caesar Salad – no queso fresco, add crema

The salad was a good option if you’re just really craving a vegetable. I would probably ask if you can get the pinto beans as a protein if I did this one again, as it was a pretty bare bones salad for us. However, we all know you eventually hit a point on your vacation where you just need some plain vegetables and this may just hit that spot for you.

In ordering it this way we ended up with the crema on the side, which worked in my favor because I was able to put it on the flatbread, salad, and rice bowl. I did ask the cast member about the flatbread missing the crema when I picked it up and she tried to give me two tubs of dairy sour cream. I know this is still the first week of the new menu, but be aware if they try to give you that since it’s not vegan.

Rice Bowl, Salad, Flatbread

I am so glad to see an update here. The only bummer is that there is no longer a vegan kids option. You can likely modify the kids chicken bowl to be vegan if you order in person though!

The new flatbread was absolutely delicious and I truly hope they keep it as fresh and crispy as it was at the start of this new menu. I highly recommend just ordering directly on the app. I do want to note that there is no ‘plant-based’ section on their menu anymore, the flatbread is under entrees. When we went there was no ability to modify the bowls to have no protein or cheese, hopefully we can do so soon. I hope you can give this flatbread a try, or the others, on your next visit!

Back in 2014 I created Vegan Disney World after going to Walt Disney World several times and finding no resource for vegan options. Corey and I began this blog from our trips and have now moved closer to the mouse to eat around the parks on a weekly basis. Since the blog started we have cruised on Disney Cruise Line, gone to Tokyo Disneyland and to Disneyland in California!
