Teriyaki Tofu Bowls from Backlot Express

It’s incredibly warm here at Walt Disney World, and while spending your day in the park you might be looking for a lighter, more refreshing meal, to enjoy. I recommend you try lunch at Backlot Express, which can be found near Star Tours in Hollywood Studios. This restaurant has both indoor and outdoor seating, and offers the vegan meals on the My Disney Experience app with no modifications needed.

The plant-based option here is the Teriyaki Tofu Bowl, which is also available on the kids menu in a smaller portion! This dish features jasmine rice, marinated tofu, yuzu-pickled edamame, carrots, cucumber and onions, and is topped with a house-made lemon-tahini chipotle vinaigrette, and black sesame seeds.

My bowl appeared to have missed the vinaigrette drizzle on my veggies, however everything else was good to go. There was plenty of rice, the tofu looked much better than when I had this a few years ago and was completely coated in the teriyaki sauce, and there were plenty of veggies as well.

The flavors were all enjoyable and it was a great option for a hot day. The tofu could have been more firm, but that could also just be personal preference. They did also have packets of soy sauce available near the condiments, which was a nice addition for the rice. The flavors were on the sweeter side for the sauce, but very enjoyable. I felt this was a good amount of food and I was unable to finish all my rice.

The kids option is the exact same just a little smaller. The kids one came with the proper vinaigrette on the vegetables, so I was able to try it then. It added a nice creaminess with the tahini.

I definitely recommend trying this one if you’re a fan of tofu. It isn’t the most amazing teriyaki bowl, but for a theme park one it was very good. I will be getting this again now that I know they have improved the sauce ratio! I do want to note that this dish can not be made gluten free, they won’t make it without the sauce which contains gluten.

Back in 2014 I created Vegan Disney World after going to Walt Disney World several times and finding no resource for vegan options. Corey and I began this blog from our trips and have now moved closer to the mouse to eat around the parks on a weekly basis. Since the blog started we have cruised on Disney Cruise Line, gone to Tokyo Disneyland and to Disneyland in California!
