Nile Nellie’s Noodle Bowl but make it vegan

One of our favorite restaurants at Walt Disney World is Jungle Navigation Co. Skipper Canteen at Magic Kingdom. This restaurant has had some of the best vegan options over the years and they always have creative dishes as well, plus the banter with the crew is always fun. Imagine riding the Jungle Cruise but now you are eating with them. The corny jokes are still around and you get to eat some delicious food.

In the past we’ve raved about their vegan options, which you can find at the bottom of this post. However, they have made a few changes over the last few years and our favorite dish from here has been replaced. We no longer get to enjoy the Perkins Thai Noodles (though you can make them on your own at home with our recipe here), as they were then replaced Skipper Dan’s Dan Dan Noodles. However, Skipper Dan has now also been replaced and the noodle option here is now Nile Nellie’s Noodle Bowl. Just like the previous dishes (outside of a short while with Perkins) you have to get the protein modified to be vegan.

This dish is similar to a pad thai but also not at all. The entree as is features rice noodles with a spicy tamarind sauce, pickled radish, toasted peanuts, and herbs. It also comes with shrimp and egg, which you can order without and have it replaced with tofu.

I didn’t love this dish, if I was craving noodles it hit the spot, but flavor-wise it wasn’t anything exciting for me. It had a sweet flavor but was also very acidic. I was also expecting it to be spicy since the menu said it was, but it wasn’t at all. The noodles were cooked well and it was a generous portion. I also enjoyed the added veggies and the abundance of tofu.

Unless I really wanted noodles, I don’t see myself getting this dish again. It’s also $9 more than the other vegan option, which is much more flavorful. But I won’t let this dish ruin Skipper Canteen, they still have delicious Falafel, Curry, and Panna Cotta for dessert, plus vegan kids curry! So please be sure to try this restaurant if you haven’t.

Back in 2014 I created Vegan Disney World after going to Walt Disney World several times and finding no resource for vegan options. Corey and I began this blog from our trips and have now moved closer to the mouse to eat around the parks on a weekly basis. Since the blog started we have cruised on Disney Cruise Line, gone to Tokyo Disneyland and to Disneyland in California!
