KUSAFIRI NO LONGER SERVES PAST BREAKFAST, THIS ITEM I NO LONGER AVAILABLE AS OF DECEMBER 2024.
It’s time to continue trying some of the menu updates over at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. Several months ago many of the options were replaced with new ones, and unfortunately we lost our empanadas over at Kusafiri in Harambe. On the plus side, they were replaced with another vegan option and not just totally removed.

Kusafiri is a walk up window quick option located in the Africa section of this park. You can find it on the same side as Tusker House on your way to Kilimanjaro Safaris. There are no tables here to sit at, but they do offer several standing height tables to eat at. I recommend taking your food and heading over to the dining area for Tamu Tamu refreshments so you can at least sit for a bit.

The new vegan option here is the Impossible Gatsby. This option features a pita pocket filled with Impossible picadillo, pepper-tomato Relish, cucumbers, crispy potato sticks, and a vegan aioli. This also comes with seasoned house made chips. You can only order this after they stop serving breakfast which is typically around 11am.

The picadillo is pretty much the same one that was in the previous empanada. There were large chunks of potatoes in it too, and of course some raisins hiding in it again. The flavor was pretty one note despite looking like it would be very flavorful. All I could taste when eating this was the tomatoes in the relish.

It ended up just being a very wet mess and fell apart on me while I was eating it. The picadillo had two large chunks of Impossible in it that hadn’t been broken up and made it easier to bite though if I’m being honest. I didn’t taste the aioli at all and pretty much all of my potato sticks fell off before I even took a bite of it.

I really wasn’t impressed with this option. It was hard to eat, messy, and fell apart on me, on top of not being very flavorful. The chips were good though, they seemed to have a curry seasoning on them and I found that very enjoyable. If you plan to try this and then head into the Kilimanjaro Safari queue, I recommend grabbing lots of napkins and a fork for if it falls apart on you.
