The ever-changing vegan option at Cosmic Ray’s Starlight Cafe at Disney’s Magic Kingdom has changed once again. While we still have a burger option here, we now have a bit of a different one with improvement in my opinion.
The Patty Melt is the plant-based option on the menu, there is also a salad that looks to be safe but is not listed as plant-based, so I can’t confirm at this time. It’s easy to order the sandwich via the My Disney Experience app for mobile ordering too. This option features an Impossible Burger with vegan swiss cheese, slaw, and astroid sauce on toast. For our sides here we can either get fruit (Cuties) or fries.
The sandwich arrives covered in aluminum foil, which seems to usually be the case with the vegan options here. To my surprise the cheese was actually melted too. The flavors of this were enjoyable, I didn’t really notice the sauce to pinpoint what it was. The sandwich was hot and clearly freshly made for us.
I do have a complaint overall about it, and I think the wrapper is to blame on this, but the sandwich was incredibly soggy. The toast was mushy and the burger was as well. Nothing really held any texture in the sandwich aside from the slaw. I was able to look passed it as the flavors were nice and the cheese was actually melty.
I also got a sandwich for my son and customized it on mobile order to not put on the slaw and sauce on his, so even though his was made to order it was also equally as soggy as mine, making me think it may be steamed in the wrapper.
I set the bar pretty low at Magic Kingdom for their food because honestly, most of it there isn’t great. I would, however, get this sandwich again if I was in the mood for a burger while visiting this park. Just be warned if mushy textures aren’t your thing! But out of all of the Cosmic Ray’s vegan options I’ve eaten over the years, this was my favorite.
