What’s Vegan at Universal Mardi Gras: International Flavors of Carnaval

Thinking about heading to Universal Orlando Resort this spring for Universal Mardi Gras: International Flavors of Carnaval? This is a special event that happens until March 30th of 2025. During Mardi Gras you can find concerts on the weekends, international food booths, and even a Mardi Gras style parade with floats and plenty of beads.

If you’re heading here this spring then you likely want to know what our vegan options are. I am sad to report we have very few, but it also seemed in general they have scaled back the menus for everyone this year. So let’s dive in!

Taste of the Quarter – Red Beans and Rice

First up, in the New Orleans section located near The Mummy you can find Taste of the Quarter which has the vegan Red Beans and Rice. This dish also features Beyond Sausage and is garnished with scallions.

I really enjoyed this bowl. The portion was quite large and it was very flavorful. I will say mine was pretty spicy, they went pretty heavy on the Tabasco sauce for me, which I was okay with! There was a good helping of rice, plenty of beans, and about half a sausages worth in the bowl. This would suffice as a small meal rather than a snack if I am being honest.

India – Potato Dosa

Over near the exit of Fast and the Furious, in the San Francisco area of the park, you can find the truck for India. Here is where you’ll be able to grab the Potato Dosa. The dosa is filled with potatoes and onions and comes with a coconut chutney.

My potatoes weren’t very curry flavored, and were a mix of mashed potato with roasted potato. In terms of it being a theme park dosa, it was quite enjoyable, but don’t expect an Indian restaurant quality dosa here. I did really like this though and would happily enjoy it again. The chutney didn’t have much flavor, especially of coconut, but it was a nice creamy addition for dipping regardless. If you’ve never had a dosa before I think this would be a good introduction to it.

Mexico – Churro Loops MODIFIED

Over near Mel’s Dine In you can find the Mexico booth which has a modifiable option. My friend Shelby over at Universal Orlando Vegans was able to figure out that the Churro Loops they are using here are vegan, but the sauces are not. This is an easy enough modification to make and won’t really make or break this.

The churros were absolutely delicious. They were sweet and sugary with a really nice bite. I happily destroyed my basket of them and will be enjoying these again. A great little dessert after the other options

CITYWALK

Over at Pat O’Briens in CityWalk they have a speakeasy open on select nights and they also have two options for Mardi Gras, Black Pepper Truffle Popcorn and Marcona & Olive Cup. I did not get these as it wasn’t open when I went and also you need a passcode to get into the speakeasy. If that’s your thing then be sure to try and get in there! [Thank you to my friend Karee for the photos!]

While we are seeing way less options than years past, I really liked each option I had. I hope you have a great visit to Universal Orlando Resort and be sure to check out the Tribute Store which features the ‘Legends of the Bayou’ Museum, you may ever see some aliens!

Back in 2014 I created Vegan Disney World after going to Walt Disney World several times and finding no resource for vegan options. Corey and I began this blog from our trips and have now moved closer to the mouse to eat around the parks on a weekly basis. Since the blog started we have cruised on Disney Cruise Line, gone to Tokyo Disneyland and to Disneyland in California!
