Heading to the vegan rodeo at Roundup Rodeo BBQ!

We shrunk down to toy size and headed to Andy’s Backyard in Toy Story Land this week. Corey and I finally went to Roundup Rodeo BBQ in Hollywood Studios to see if this family style all-you-care-to-enjoy meal was worth the money.

This restaurant is super cute and themed very similarly to Toy Story Midway Mania. It’s an all indoor restaurant and has fun little audio drop-ins from various Toy Story characters. You may even encounter Sid or Andy and need to stop moving just like the toys in Toy Story.

Once we were seated we told our server we would be needing to do the plant-based meal. I wasn’t sure how quickly they began bringing things out so I wanted to let her know ASAP. She said that was absolutely no problem and then went through the menu with us noting each thing that was vegan.

Our meal started with the gluten free and vegan Bloomfield Farms rolls. These come pre-wrapped to avoid cross contamination and are steamed in their little bags. The rolls came with a Sweet Pepper Jelly that was vegan. This is my favorite gluten free bread, they aren’t as dry as some others can be. The sweet pepper jelly was really flavorful and had a mild heat to it, but was mostly just sweet. It was a perfect pairing with the roll.

Next up we got our salads; both of which are vegan as is on the menu! The Rootin’ Tootin Tomato Salad and Wheezy’s Watermelon Salad are what everyone gets to start their meal.

Wheezy’s Watermelon Salad

The watermelon salad was really just watermelon with some thin sliced mint on it. The watermelon itself was so juicy and flavorful, I was very happy to start with such a light option before a seemingly heavy meal. I ate a lot of this because it was just so fresh.

Rootin’ Tootin Tomato Salad

In addition to tomatoes, the salad also had cucumbers, pickled red onion, and a white balsamic vinaigrette. This was very simple but very flavorful. The tomatoes in it ranged from grape halves to large slices. This was another great lighter option to start the meal.

While we were eating our staters, our main course came out. Trixie’s Plant-based Trio includes Combat Carloflower with Harissa Drizzle and Walnut Gremolata, Scrumptious Bratwurst, and Rip Roarin’ Rib Chop. In addition to that we also get sides, which three of the five are vegan as is and another can be vegan as well. For our sides we had Potato Barrels, The Claw! Veggie Slaw, Buckin’ Baked Beans, and then the Cowpoke Corn on the Cob modified to not have butter. Our tiny table was absolutely packed with food and we had no idea where to start.

Trixie’s Plant-based Trio and Sides

In the trio, I was most looking forward to the Combat Carloflower. Unfortunately that one ended up being my least favorite. Our cauliflower was pretty undercooked and was very crunchy. I really enjoyed the walnut gremolata on it as it offered a nice mouth feel and was similar to breadcrumbs. The sauce, being harissa, I thought would have some heat but all I could taste with the cauliflower was a smokiness and a slight sweetness. I was really bummed as this looked so good. Maybe another day this would be my favorite, I know cauliflower can be hit or miss on cooks.

The Scrumptious Bratwurst was your standard Beyond Sausage. It was cooked well and we were given plenty of it. At the table they have three BBQ sauces, all of which were vegan. We ended up eating our sausages with the “spicy” bbq sauce to help give it a little more oomph in the meal. I ended up eating a lot of the chopped sausages out of the trio.

The final protein in the trio was the Rip Roarin’ Rib Chop. This, I assume, is supposed to resemble some sort of meat on a stick. It is essentially an Impossible patty that has been shaped around a bamboo stick to eat off and has a little bbq sauce on it. The Impossible wasn’t seasoned at all and it just felt like I was eating a burger on a very sticky stick. The bbq sauce wasn’t very noticeable and I ended up just pushing mine off the stick and adding more of the spicy bbq sauce and ate it with a fork. It wasn’t bad by any means, just seemed to be lacking seasoning. I also really didn’t love the stickiness of the stick or pretending to eat off a bone (I went vegan for a reason…).

The trio as a whole was enjoyable, but not amazing. I think compared to the non-vegan one it was a pretty solid alternative and they did try to stick with the bbq theme which I enjoyed. Though I didn’t love the fake meat stick, it was a cute idea and I am sure others will enjoy that.

Now we need to dive into all of our sides. I’ll start with the Buckin’ Baked Beans as I was surprised to find out they put jackfruit in them! I guess they’re going for the pork esthetic with it, but keeping it pork free for those of us who don’t eat that. The beans were more savory than sweet, but I really enjoyed them. They were a nice hearty side and were much appreciated that they were vegan as is! I thought the jackfruit in it was fun for presentation. It didn’t add a ton for flavor or texture, but it was a nice little touch. UPDATE FROM APRIL 2025 – The beans now come with pork, but can be modified to be vegan upon request.

The Potato Barrels were incredibly crispy and well salted. They may have been some of the best potato barrels I’ve had at Walt Disney World. Out of all of the food we were given, the tots were the only thing we ate all of.

Potato Barrels

The Claw! Veggie Slaw was probably my least favorite of the sides. This was your basic vinegar based slaw and just had no real flavor. They were very basic and forgettable. It had a nice crunchy texture but that was about all it offered. In the amount of food we ate, I did not waste stomach room on these.

Our server surprised us and brought out the Cowpoke Corn on the Cob that she had modified for us to not have butter. It was just basic corn with salt and pepper on it. It was cooked well and had a nice smoky char on it. I enjoyed the corn, but some vegan butter would have been nice to have.

After we ate all of that food we still had to have room for dessert! The plant-based dessert option here is Gruff’s Peach-Strawberry Pie. They come in tiny little mason jars and have a crust on the bottom, a mix of strawberries and peach in the middle, then vegan whipped cream on the top. Despite being as full as we were, we ended up asking for another one of these each, they were that good! The flavors of the peach and strawberry were so good and the fruits still had a nice bite to them as well. UPDATE FROM APRIL 2025 – The dessert is now Gruff’s Strawberry Shortcake.

As a whole, I would absolutely say this meal was worth the price of $45 per adult. I want to note that a non-alcoholic beverage is also included in the price of this meal. This would also end up being one dining credit if you are on the Disney Dining Plan. It’s all-you-care-to-enjoy which means you can ask for more of anything in this meal if you have the room for it. There are no characters, but the atmosphere is still enjoyable. I would definitely recommend giving this one a try if you like traditional American BBQ food. I will happily eat here again.

Back in 2014 I created Vegan Disney World after going to Walt Disney World several times and finding no resource for vegan options. Corey and I began this blog from our trips and have now moved closer to the mouse to eat around the parks on a weekly basis. Since the blog started we have cruised on Disney Cruise Line, gone to Tokyo Disneyland and to Disneyland in California!
