We recently went to try breakfast at a resort I haven’t been to since I was a kid, Disney’s Old Key West Resort. This is the original Disney Vacation Club resort and is located next to Disney Springs. There are a few dining options here, but we decided to try their table service restaurant Olivia’s Cafe for breakfast.

This restaurant is located near the lobby of this resort and offers both indoor and outdoor seating. The waiting area features tons of very fun “vintage” photos from the 90’s and early 2000’s of families who are part of DVC at Walt Disney World. If you have a photo on the wall leave a comment because these are super cute.

On the menu here there is a vegan option called Papa’s Hash. This dish is vegan as is and features cubed Tamari-Marinated Tofu, Potatoes, Spinach, Red Peppers, and other seasonal vegetables. This option is what my preferred breakfast entree is; tofu based, no faux meat, full of veggies, etc. So I was pretty excited to give this one a try.

The food was pretty quick to come out. We weren’t really sure what the portion size would be for it, but it was a good size. I was a little nervous with how wet it seemed and that it may just be sitting in a bowl of oil, but I don’t think that was actually the case.

The tofu had a great flavor from the tamari, but was very soft. I prefer more firm tofu so I like to give a heads up about that for those who are weary of tofu. The potatoes tasted like they were made yesterday then thrown into this dish to “rehydrate” them. I was hoping for a more fresh potato in the hash, but they weren’t awful. They were just very starchy and crumbly when you bit into it.
The veggies in the dish were spinach, red peppers, onions, and grape tomatoes. They were all cooked well and when you ate it all together it was really flavorful and delicious. The spinach was thrown on last and basically wilted while you ate it, which worked out fine.

While I wouldn’t go out of my way to eat breakfast here again as a local, I would recommend going here if you’re on a trip and want a more veggie heavy breakfast. The flavors were good and everything aside from the potatoes was great. I just hope they can figure out a way to make that Banana Bread French Toast vegan so we have another option.
