Everything vegan I ate on the Disney Magic

Back in September 2024 I sailed on the Disney Magic on a four night sailing with a stop at the brand new Disney Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point. I wanted to share all the vegan options I ate on this sailing so you can better prepare for your next cruise with Disney Cruise Line.

I think it’s going to be easiest to just go day by day on this one so you can see what I experienced and maybe learn from my mistakes.

DAY ONE – Embarkation

I was traveling with two of my colleagues on this sailing so upon embarkation we opted to head to Rapunzel’s Royal Table for lunch rather than head to the buffet at Cabanas. This wasn’t the best plan for me as they didn’t have a single plant-based option on the menu for embarkation lunch.

Plain Pasta

Fortunately for me they were able to make me a plain oil pasta with some steamed vegetables. This was fine with me since I could always run up to Cabanas or elsewhere for a snack later, but man what a way to kick off our week! (Read the sarcasm there please). I will say though, I much preferred a sit down meal than fighting the arrival crowds in Cabanas. So while not the most exciting meal I’ve eaten, it was edible and they gave me vegan bread and rolls which I destroyed.

Animator’s Palate

Dinner that night was at Animator’s Palate which has the same vegan options across the fleet. This actually one of my favorite on menu meals too, so I was glad I was able to redeem that pasta with a meal I was looking forward to.

Our meal started with rolls and I let our servers know I was vegan so that they could have my little vegan rolls and butter ready for me each night. Since I was the only vegan at the table I was able to eat allllll the rolls myself.

Vegan Butter and Rolls

The vegan appetizer here that is the Arugula Leaves, and happens to be one of my favorite starter salads. The salad comes with beets, oranges, white beans, and a mustard dressing. It’s simple, tangy, flavorful, and delicious.

Arugula Leaves

For the entree here we have the Black Bean Chipotle Cakes. These little guys are like mini black bean burgers and are a great texture and flavor. They come with brown rice and salsa. These have never let me down on my many Disney Cruise Line sailings. The chipotle flavor is barely there but offers a nice smokiness to them.

For dessert they brought me a raspberry chocolate cake and it was very good. It had a lot of raspberry fluff on it and the chocolate cake was a nice flavor and texture. The perfect little dessert after a tasty meal! There were no vegan desserts on any of the menus for my sailing, so each night was a surprise for what I’d get.

DAY TWO – Disney’s Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point

We ventured up to Cabanas for breakfast this day. I saw at the omelet station they could make vegan omelets, so naturally I ordered that. To order food at Cabanas you need to find a coordinator so they can make sure your food is safe. The coordinator I ordered with mentioned them having vegan sausage so he ordered that for me as well.

Cabanas Omelet Station

While I was waiting for this meal I grabbed some fruit and potatoes as well as some soy milk for my coffee. I was glad to have done this because it took 45 minutes to get my omelet. I ended up going up and checking on it about 25 minutes into that wait and was told they were preparing it. My colleague asked me if that was common and I told her that while we are used to waiting for special items, that wait was much longer than any I have ever waited for.

Once my omelet and sausage arrived I ate them up and they were both cooked well. It wasn’t worth the wait, so as you can imagine I didn’t order that for breakfast again.

Vegan Omelet and Sausage

After breakfast we headed off to Disney’s Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point to explore. I was told the night previously that I would not be able to order ahead for food like you can on Disney’s Castaway Cay, so I was going to be at the mercy of what is offered on the island. After wandering around and taking entirely too many photos and videos we went to True-True BBQ for some lunch.

I took at look at the buffet and saw a few things noted as plant-based but went to find someone to confirm what else could be vegan that wasn’t labeled as such. I was then sent over to the allergy table where they allowed me to order an Impossible burger and noted what sides were vegan. They then sent me on my way and told me my food would be ready soon.

On the buffet I found a Plant-based Island Curry which had tofu in it! The curry was good but very wet so I had to acquire a bowl. I would happily eat the curry again though. It had a nice light flavor and was perfect for the island.

There was also a black bean and pineapple salad that was vegan, a cucumber tomato salad, and of course fries and fruit. When my vegan friendly plate arrived I was also given corn on the cob, which I assume the one on the buffet has butter and mine did not.

Impossible Burger

The bun they gave me for the burger was gluten free and I ended up being too paranoid to eat the bun and just ate the patty. I had one bite with the bun and it definitely wasn’t Bloomfield Farms. Too often gluten free buns contain egg, so I wasn’t willing to risk it. Overall we definitely had plenty to enjoy at the new island stop though!

Once back on board I decided I needed a snack after all that walking and went to the pool deck to get some pizza. I stopped by Pinocchio’s Pizzeria and inquired about their “plant base sausage pizza” and was told the crust they use isn’t vegan. So while they use vegan sausage and vegan cheese on this one, the crust wasn’t vegan… However they did happen to have a vegan crust so I was able to get a vegan pepperoni (aka tomato slice) pizza just for me. It took about 5 minutes and was very tasty.

This has happened on other sailings for me which is why I thought to ask. I have encountered non-vegan hotdog buns with vegan sausages, pizza crusts, you name it. So while it SAYS it’s plant-based ALWAYS ask in these places.

Dinner this night was at Rapunzel’s Royal Table. This restaurant offers a show with your meal and was very cute. Plus the whole restaurant itself was just so perfect!

My servers brought out my vegan rolls and bread with everyones non vegan ones so I was able to dig right in on arrival. We had a great service staff on this sailing.

Our server brought out a modified Asparagus Broccoli Soup for me to start my meal with. It was fine, I didn’t eat much of it because liquified asparagus doesn’t really hit the same. I was also feeling suspect after the gluten free bun and non vegan pizza crust, it seemed creamy and I didn’t trust it.

I wasn’t really too excited about the vegan entree here so I actually pre-ordered a vegan curry. I wasn’t specific with what I wanted so I ended up with a potato curry that was very simple.

I ended up also getting the vegan option to try which was Chili-Spiced Tofu Ramen. It comes with a soy-vegetable stock, rice noodles, and vegetables. It didn’t have a lot of flavor, but the noodles themselves were good and I mostly just ate that for the texture.

For dessert I was given a vegan carrot cake. I was hoping it was going to be like one I have had on other sailings, but this one was different. It was still good though, I am always happy with my mini cakes for dessert.

DAY THREE – Nassau

For breakfast we went to Cabanas again, but this time I just opted for fruit, a hash brown and oatmeal. They use water for their oats so it is always safe to get at breakfast. This was much better and more efficient than yesterdays breakfast.

Cabanas Breakfast

I spent the day off ship touring a resort for work and ate there, so once we returned I made a stop up to see my buddy Jarvis at Cove Cafe to get some work done. I also wanted to see if they had vegan whipped cream yet for one of their specialty drinks. I was in luck because they did!

Cove Cafe is located next to the adult only area and is a quiet coffee bar that serves Joffrey’s Coffee. I was able to get some of the coconut Reddi Wip on my latte and I was ecstatic. They have several non-dairy milks and Monin syrup here too.

After that we opted for a little room service snack since we had late dinner. I saw they had a vegan chicken sandwich on the menu and I had to order it. I was stoked to find out it was a big boy Gardein Ultimate Fillet. This was so good. It had lettuce, tomato, and there was vegan mayo on it too. This truly hit the spot. I will be ordering these on every sailing from now on.

Vegan Chicken Sandwich

Tonights dinner was back at Rapunzel’s Royal Table again because it was Pirate Night. Notoriously this is my least favorite meal on a DCL sailing because of the entree, so naturally I pre-ordered something again to avoid that awful falafel dish they’ve served for years.

My bread and rolls were awaiting me upon arrival and then I ordered the Vegetable Samosa for the appetizer. I always enjoy this as it has a nice texture and heat. However after this meal I had an awful stomach ache and have realized it happens every time after my pirate night meal, so I am thinking the only common denominator at this point is the samosa and I think I can not get it again. I will miss you tasty samosa (also if this happens to you after this meal let me know!).

For my entree I got another curry with an interesting vegetable choice. It was basically the same as last night but with cauliflower and a frozen pea, green bean situation thrown in there. I should have been more specific about what I wanted. I would have liked a spinach or chickpea curry. Maybe even eggplant.

Pre-ordered Curry

My dessert was a fruit cobbler with sorbet and was very tasty. The cobbler itself was nice and warm and it paired well with the fruit sorbet.

DAY FOUR – sea day

Since today was at sea we decided to try the sit down breakfast at Lumiere’s. I was excited to see several vegan options to order on the menu here as our last Disney Cruise Line sailing didn’t have anything on the menu at breakfast.

Lumiere’s Breakfast Menu

I decided to try the Plant-based Yogurt Parfait just because I could. The yogurt was good and the fruit was fresh. The cornflakes were not good as they clearly had been sitting on the parfait for a while and were very soggy. I think had they been fresh it would have been a nice added crunch.

Plant-based Yogurt Parfait

I also ordered the Plant-based Hot Breakfast which comes with vegan egg, sausage, pancake, hash brown, and grilled tomato. This was really good and very filling. I was excited that the sausage was an actual breakfast patty and not a brat like I had at Cabanas.

Plant-based Hot Breakfast

The vegan egg was cooked well and I enjoyed eating it with the sausage. They did also give me syrup to enjoy with my pancake. This was the perfect breakfast for a sea day.

To keep the theme of sit downs today we decided to head back to Rapunzel’s Royal Table for their served lunch as we knew that they had a vegan option on the menu post embarkation. I enjoyed the Impossible Cheeseburger and am mad I didn’t have that until my last day because it was SO GOOD.

The burger was cooked well with melty cheese and there was a garlic aioli as well. This was probably my favorite thing I ate the whole trip. I highly recommend this if you’re sailing on the Magic anytime soon.

Our last dinner was at Lumiere’s which is the fanciest of the restaurants. It features stunning Beauty and the Beast tributes and has a similar menu as a few of the other ships fancy restaurants.

Just like the previous nights, my vegan rolls and butter were there and I ruined my appetite by stuffing myself with rolls again.

The vegan appetizer here was the Farmhouse Salad without the goat cheese crostini. This salad had baby spinach, asparagus, cherry tomatoes, fingerling potatoes, and an olive vinaigrette. It was very good, probably up there with the Animator’s Palate salad. I really enjoyed the olive vinaigrette.

Farmhouse Salad

The vegan entree here is the Grilled Marinated Tofu, Roasted Zucchini, Eggplant, and Red Peppers. It comes with Israeli Couscous and a Lime Cilantro Drop. I’ve had this on other ships and it’s always enjoyable. The tofu isn’t firm at all, but it doesn’t take away from the dish too much. I like the sun-dried tomatoes with the couscous as well. Overall a good option.

The dessert this night was pretty lame from previous nights as I was just given sorbet. Compared to my first two nights with mini cakes this was just fine. You can’t go wrong with sorbet, but I was hoping for something more exciting.

FINAL THOUGHT

So that was everything I ate on my last Disney Magic sailing! I ate a lot, but not all the options. There is the Duck-In Diner by the pool which has vegan meats, just be sure to check on the buns like the pizza crust. We didn’t do Palo, which is an additional cost specialty dining experience. If you have Palo booked I recommend stopping by prior to your reservation to let them know you’re vegan.

One thing I would do differently next cruise is be sure to get those vegan churro Mickey waffles on the last sea day. I loved the breakfast we had that day, but I would have loved to try those churro waffles. Maybe next Disney Cruise!

Back in 2014 I created Vegan Disney World after going to Walt Disney World several times and finding no resource for vegan options. Corey and I began this blog from our trips and have now moved closer to the mouse to eat around the parks on a weekly basis. Since the blog started we have cruised on Disney Cruise Line, gone to Tokyo Disneyland and to Disneyland in California!
