Vegan Options at The Plaza Restaurant

This last weekend we had a fun day at Magic Kingdom for Mother’s Day and decided to do lunch at The Plaza Restaurant. This restaurant faces Cinderella’s Castle just off Main Street USA. This is a table service restaurant and requires reservations or walk up reservations made on the My Disney Experience app.

We did a walk up on the app as we had another restaurant booked, but the child changed his mind about what he wanted to eat for lunch. We had to wait about an hour, but the app did tell us that when we booked it.

Once seated we asked to speak with a chef since there are no vegan kid options and Finn also has a peanut allergy. We were told they could make him a kids size Impossible Burger, which he was happy to get. We also were able to order a vegan milkshake, which they can do vanilla or chocolate.

I skipped the appetizer here since it’s just a salad and went for the Impossible Chili Burger. The menu says it’s a burger topped with chili and pico de gallo, which are interesting toppings for a burger. When it arrived I was surprised to see it was mostly just pinto beans and not really a chili. It did have lots of beans on it, plenty of pico, and most of the vegan cheese was melted.

When it comes to cooks on burgers, this was great. The patty was well seasoned with salt and pepper and really was the shining component of this meal. Not to mention this thing was huge, I think this was one of the largest vegan burgers I have had at Walt Disney World. The chili and pico on it was odd, but not terrible. It was less messy than I expected as well, I was able to eat the whole thing with my hands. I wouldn’t mind having this again, as the burger patty itself was great, I just didn’t love the topping choice.

They made Finn a kids size burger which was perfect for him, they even had vegan cheese on it. He enjoyed his burger, but didn’t love the cheese on it. I also ordered him fries and apple slices. We had the same fries and they were large chip style ones and were very good.

The Vanilla Milkshake was good, it was more of a slushy consistency but I think that has to do more so with just how frozen the vegan ice cream had been. It tasted like Tofutti ice cream, which is often what they serve there and at the ice cream shop next to the restaurant. It was a tasty little treat and Finn only let me have one sip while he drank the rest.

Not to worry though, as I got the Dark Chocolate-Banana Bread Pudding with Soy Milk Frozen Dessert for myself. This is now one of my top favorite desserts I’ve ever had at Disney. The banana bread pudding was warm and gooey in the middle and had a nice crisp to the outside. The bites of the warm chocolate-banana bread pudding with the cold vegan ice cream was just perfect. It had a nice cinnamon flavor to it and I will dream of this dessert until I can go back.

Our meal here was really enjoyable and Finn and I had a great Mother’s Day together while dad was out of town. I will absolutely be back, even if I just go for dessert! I recommend checking this out on your next visit if you like banana bread and burgers.

Back in 2014 I created Vegan Disney World after going to Walt Disney World several times and finding no resource for vegan options. Corey and I began this blog from our trips and have now moved closer to the mouse to eat around the parks on a weekly basis. Since the blog started we have cruised on Disney Cruise Line, gone to Tokyo Disneyland and to Disneyland in California!
