Epcot Festival of the Holidays 2019

Food and Wine has ended in Epcot and immediately following it came the Epcot International Festival of the Holidays. This festival runs from November 29th to December 30th.

Epcot Christmas Tree

We had a few friends attend the media events for the Festival of Holidays so we already knew there was going to be a vegan cookie. [See Jess’ write up here] As always though, I was skeptical and needed to go speak with a chef for myself.

We looked through the passport for the festival and didn’t see anything labeled vegan. We went in the evening on the first day so it was kind of a madhouse. We went straight to the L’Chaim Booth to speak with a chef.

L’Chaim Booth

After waiting in a long line I got to the register and asked the cast member to phone a chef for me to speak with. Luckily there was one close by who came over to chat. He confirmed that the Black and White Cookie is plant based. He said they are made in house too, so there shouldn’t be a supplier issue like the Yukon cookie last year. He went through the list of food and told me this was the only vegan option this year. I asked why it wasn’t labeled as plant based and he said they only label things as vegetarian for the festivals, which is frustrating with the new plant based logo that the parks have now.

The cookie itself was good. I have never had a Black and White Cookie to compare. It was thicker, but soft. It was like a cake-cookie that was lemon flavored and then the icing was vanilla and chocolate. The cookie itself was $2.50. I would get it again, but I wouldn’t go out of my way. As a whole, I’m pretty disappointed in the lack of options. I know this is a smaller festival, but it’s just sad when the bigger festivals (Food and Wine, Flower and Garden) do a much better job with accommodating vegans.
