This review reflects our experience from February of 2018.
If you’ve been following any sort of Disney World news, you know that Disney’s Hollywood Studios has been under some major construction for a few years now. Disney’s Toy Story Land opens June 30th of this year and Star War’s Galaxy’s Edge will follow sometime in 2019. With that construction has come a pretty low amount of vegan options in the park, or so we thought.
During a recent excursion to Disney’s Hollywood Studios we decided to get our hands on some of the harder to find vegan options in the park. We had seen on Disney’s website that Fairfax Fare had a 7-Layer Rice Bowl with Vegan Chili. So we ventured over to Sunset Boulevard to check it out. To our surprise the menu board doesn’t indicate any sort of vegan chili, so we got in line to ask.
When we spoke with the cast member she said they did in fact still have the vegan chili. We asked to see the allergy binder and a manager came over to show us the ingredients. He informed us that the 7-Layer Rice Bowl can be made vegan with the chili instead of other proteins and with the removal of sour cream and cheese, and lastly by swapping for an allergy friendly rice, thus making it actually a 5-Layer Rice Bowl. Additionally, you can add guacamole for $1.00 extra, which we noticed after since they didn’t offer it.
Within a minute our 5-Layer Rice Bowl was in our possession, this was the fastest we have ever received a “special” meal at a quick service location. The bowl was loaded with rice, vegan chili, peppers, pico de gallo and roasted corn, and when I say loaded, this thing was heavy!
The chili was the same that they have on the nachos at Min and Bill’s (review for that coming soon, will link to it when we have that up) but seemed a bit spicier, which could have actually just been the additional toppings on this dish.
This meal was great, it was very filling and a total bang for your buck if you’re looking for “real food.” The bowl would have been better with guacamole, but without it we still really enjoyed everything. If you’re looking for lunch or dinner in Hollywood Studios, we highly recommend this dish.
