Vegan Options at Le Cellier Steakhouse

For the first time ever, we have officially dined in the Canada pavilion in Epcot! We recently made reservations to Le Cellier Steakhouse after seeing someone on Instagram who tagged us in something that really caught our attention. We’ve known for a while they had a vegan entree, but we weren’t too keen on trying it so we had put it off. But boy am I glad we finally gave this signature restaurant a try!

Le Cellier Steakhouse is located inside the Canada pavilion near the garden. The whole restaurant is nestled inside and has no windows. It was much smaller than we anticipated, but enjoyed the coziness of the restaurant. This is not one to plan on eating in whenever nighttime shows return, as you will have absolutely no view of anything.

When we spoke to our server at first we alerted him that we were vegan. Shortly after that our server brought out a basket with two pretzel rolls, a ciabatta roll, and another with seeds on it and a side of vegan butter for us.

To start our meal we were hoping to get what we had been tagged in on our Instagram, Vegan Poutine! We asked our server if this was an option, he had said they had a gravy but he was unsure if they had any cheese. To our surprise they did have cheese!

Poutine is a Canadian staple. It’s french fries topped with a brown gravy and cheese curds. For the vegan version they used two types of vegan cheese here, shreds and chunks. We asked what brands they were and the shreds were Daiya Cutting Board and the chunks we think were Miyoko’s Creamery Mozzarella (our server was confused on this one).

You pour the gravy on yourself, and it was very hot. The gravy actually allowed the cheese to melt! This was my first poutine experience, and it will absolutely not be my last. Our server said that this will be on the menu officially in two weeks (which puts it around November 15th 2020).

The fries themselves were super crispy and seasoned very well. The gravy was a good savory one full of flavor. We ended up putting the bread we had in the left over gravy at the bottom of the dish!

For the actual vegan entree here they have Steamed Asian Impossible Dumplings. The bowl of dumplings comes with a “fragrant Asian broth”, vegetables, crispy noodles, and 5 dumplings.

The dumplings themselves were okay. They were essentially tiny meatballs and that was about it. The seasoning wasn’t strong, just peppery, and the dumpling wrappers were kind of slimy from the steaming. They were something I would eat again though.

In the bowl there was bok choy, radish, green beans, edamame, and carrots. The crispy noodles were good when they got wet, and made them easier to eat. They did have some heat to them, we think it was cayenne on them, which was a bit rough without the broth. The broth itself wasn’t overly flavorful, but had notes of sesame oil to it and it was very good.

For an additional side here right now they have Maple Whiskey-Glazed Brussels Sprouts which are vegan as is. The portion of this was a great shareable size. The large brussels sprouts were cooked perfectly and had just the right amount of sweet and savory going on.

Once we had finished our meal our server asked if we wanted dessert. We assumed they only had sorbet, but asked what their vegan dessert was. We were surprised when he told us it was a Plant-based Carrot Cake, Corey’s favorite. We obviously said “yes absolutely” to this.

The cake slice was quite large, and a perfect amount for us to share. It was incredibly moist and had a good amount of walnuts in it for texture.

The frosting wasn’t overly cream cheese-y, but it did have a hint of it. It was a good amount of frosting to cake as well.

We didn’t have Finn with us, but I did look at the kids options for next time. They don’t have any vegan kids meal here, but they have a kind of a “build your own” option with lots of sides that appear to be vegan. From rice, to vegetables, fruit, and potatoes.

We really loved this meal, and shared everything. We were both incredibly full when we left. Neither of us had high expectations for this meal, and left thinking this may be a new favorite spot in Epcot for us. We will absolutely be back for some poutine and cake!

Back in 2014 I created Vegan Disney World after going to Walt Disney World several times and finding no resource for vegan options. Corey and I began this blog from our trips and have now moved closer to the mouse to eat around the parks on a weekly basis. Since the blog started we have cruised on Disney Cruise Line, gone to Tokyo Disneyland and to Disneyland in California!
