Frontera Cocina during a pandemic

We recently stopped into Disney Springs to see how things are now they have reopened for dinner. After parking in the garage (only specific parking locations are currently open) we arrived to the health screening, which was very quick and there was no line. It wasn’t busy walking around at all and for the most part everyone we saw was abiding to the mask rule.

We went into World of Disney and used their new contactless checkout. They finally have chip readers here and it was portable, so there was no contact with a Cast Member needed.

Of course we had to pop into Erin McKenna’s Bakery, where they had a pretty good assortment of their usual treats and even had some eclairs left. Blaze Pizza had no line and socially distanced markers in the queue outside.

After walking around we decided on one of our favorite places, Frontera Cocina, for dinner. We were able to just walk in with no reservation and were seated at a table in a section of the restaurant where it was just us. There was only two other parties dining the entire time we were there.

Our server came over to greet us, offered drinks, and told us about the menu. There are QR code’s on each table that you scan with your phone to pull up their limited menu. She asked if we had any dietary restrictions so we let her know we were both vegan. She was knowledgeable about what we could have and modify from the offerings.

We ended up ordering the Guacamole & Chips along with the Garlicky Mushroom & Eggplant Tacos. She told us that the tacos were vegan when omitting the goat cheese and that the red beans were cooked separately being vegan as is, I asked specifically about confirming the beans as they have had lard beans in the past.

Our food came out pretty fast and we were served both dishes at the same time. The guacamole is always good here and we love the smoky salsa they serve with the chips too. We often come here for just this and drinks.

The tacos were good but neither of us were crazy about the mushroom and eggplant mixture. The red beans however were really good. I would have been happy, and preferred, just having the beans for the tacos. It’s served with warm soft tortillas and a side of guacamole and salsa so you build the tacos yourself.

The server visits to the table were very minimal but she kept an eye on us from a distance. Overall it was a good experience. This was our first time dining out since the pandemic. Frontera Cocina was empty and all the staff were in masks, so it did feel a little weird just in general. We felt safe though and plan to visit Frontera Cocina at Disney Springs again.

  1. Thanks for the review. Are you planning on heading to the parks once they officially open in July?
