Two Suns Hummus from Backlot Express

Backlot Express is a quick service location in Hollywood Studios that has never been vegan friendly. Backlot Express is located near the Indiana Jones Stunt Show. It is a quick service location that has a pretty basic menu with burgers and sandwiches. During September they added a short term vegan option called the Two Suns Hummus. Once Disney updated the menus to include plant-based options, the hummus made it’s way to the menu.

The Two Suns Hummus is vegan as is, though we were told the chickpeas are in a shared fryer, so order without if you avoid those. The entree comes with a red pepper hummus topped with “meat crumbles”, a classic hummus topped with cucumbers, tomatoes and fried chickpeas, pita bread, and a spring salad.

This is a great option for those hot Florida days, but doesn’t quite hit as well on the chillier evenings. You get a ton of hummus and not as much to dip in it. There are 4 discs of pita bread to use with all the hummus. The red pepper hummus was our favorite of the two as it was very flavorful. Both hummuses were a great consistency and very creamy.

The Impossible crumbles on the hummus didn’t really add anything. You could barely taste it and the amount was so minimal. The fried chickpeas were so dry and hard to eat because of it. The salad was super basic, we believe dressed with just an oil balsamic dressing.

We love the creativity of this option and that it’s “real food” and not just a burger. I wish we had more things to dip in the hummus, whether it be more pita or cucumbers or carrots. We ended up having a lot of hummus left on our plate with nothing else on it. We’ll absolutely get this dish again though.

Back in 2014 I created Vegan Disney World after going to Walt Disney World several times and finding no resource for vegan options. Corey and I began this blog from our trips and have now moved closer to the mouse to eat around the parks on a weekly basis. Since the blog started we have cruised on Disney Cruise Line, gone to Tokyo Disneyland and to Disneyland in California!
