Skipper Canteen’s options and the new vegan naan!

We went back to Skipper Canteen this weekend in Magic Kingdom because it has turned into our favorite spot. Skipper Canteen in located in Adventureland in the Magic Kingdom and has a not so typical theme park menu. We had heard they added a vegan naan to their Curried Vegetable Crew Stew and took that as an “excuse” to go back. Skipper Canteen has a handful of easily made vegan options on their menu that we’ll go into later.

When we went for Father’s Day we got the Fall’s Family Falafel which is vegan as is (although they use a shared fryer but can do it in it’s own if you request it). We weren’t big fans of this appetizer. The falafel balls seemed baked, not fried, and were dry. The hummus was nothing special. We decided to skip those this time since it didn’t leave us wanting more. You can also get the Shiriki Noodle Salad appetizer vegan by swapping the noodles for rice noodles. We haven’t tried this yet.

On their entree section of the menu they have 3 veganizable options. The Perkins Thai Noodles are vegan when you order them without chicken. The Curried Vegetable Crew Stew is vegan when you swap the coconut rice for plain rice (coconut rice contains honey) and I’m assuming you need to request the vegan naan, and then the “A Lot at Steak” Salad can be vegan by swapping the steak for tofu and removing the cheese. On the kids menu they can do a kids version of the Crew Stew (called Congo Connie’s Coconut-Curry Concoction), we did this on Father’s Day for Finn but didn’t this time.

Since we went a few months ago we knew the portions were massive. We ended up ordering the vegan Perkins Thai Noodles and the vegan Curried Vegetable Crew Stew to share for the threw of us.

The Perkins Thai Noodles were still incredible. They were also incredibly spicy this time, they were spicy before too but definitely more this time. This dish is super flavorful and has so much to it.

The noodles are loaded up with peppers, squash, zucchini, carrot, snow peas, and of course tofu in a spicy sauce. If you are not a spicy food person I highly recommend skipping this one or seeing if they can do it low spice.

The Curried Vegetable Crew Stew with the vegan naan was an improvement. Last time we had like two cups of rice with the dish, assuming it was to make up for the naan, so this time there was a lot less. The tofu is okay, it’s pretty corn starch-y from frying so it’s not great. But if you mix it up with the vegetables it’s fine. I don’t get a pineapple flavor at all.

The vegan naan was interesting. It reminded me of the naan from the vegan bread service at Sanaa, which is more like a tortilla. On it’s own it wasn’t very good, but if you made it into like a taco with the curried vegetables it was good. This is a great option for people who don’t like spicy food. The Crew Stew is full of squash, zucchini, cauliflower, green beans, and more.

We were defeated by our entrees, even with sharing our rice with Finn. We ended up taking home leftovers because of the huge servings. If you’re looking for a table service option in Magic Kingdom you should check out Skipper Canteen!

Back in 2014 I created Vegan Disney World after going to Walt Disney World several times and finding no resource for vegan options. Corey and I began this blog from our trips and have now moved closer to the mouse to eat around the parks on a weekly basis. Since the blog started we have cruised on Disney Cruise Line, gone to Tokyo Disneyland and to Disneyland in California!

    1. Someone informed me that it is actually paratha, even though the server called it naan, which is traditionally not gluten free.

  1. I know your little one has a peanut allergy. My son has one as well (sesame too). Were the thai noodles peanut free? This meal looks delicious! I’d love to add this to our list for our next trip.
