1900 Park Fare Dinner

1900 Park Fare is one of those iconic must do restaurants on many people’s lists. This character buffet is located at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort and Spa and is open for breakfast and dinner. During dinner you are delighted by Cinderella, Prince Charming, Drizella, and Anastasia. It had been a long time since we dined there, and never as vegans, so we were unsure of what to expect. But with family in town, we decided that was the best time to give it a shot!

We had reservation for when dinner started, so it was relatively calm when we were there. After speaking with our server and looking over the allergy guide, we asked to speak with a chef. Soon after Chef Andrea came out to speak with us. She started the conversation by asking what we wanted to eat, which usually throws us off because we don’t know what they have. After she saw our blank stares she suggested the things they can make in the back, mac and cheese, pizza, a stir fry, she has tofu and could make something like a vegan chick’n sandwich. We decided on mac and cheese and stir fry with a protein. She also mentioned that they had vegan and gluten free rolls and vegan butter for them, so we gladly accepted those.

Fruit on the buffet

Before she left I asked about what was actually vegan on the buffet. She said fruit and the standard salad they have. While waiting for our food I walked up to the buffet to check it out, and as stated, just fruit and salad. According to the allergen guide the green beans were also safe.

About 10 minutes later we received our mac and cheese and stir fry with rice. Upon dropping off the food she said our protein would be out shortly.

Vegan mac and cheese

The mac and cheese, or as I kept calling it penne and mozzarella, was surprisingly good. I was a little nervous when I looked at it, but the mozzarella worked well with it. It had a nice garlicky flavor to it too. My only dislike to it was that it was heavy in black pepper.

Vegan Stir Fry

The stir fry was excellent. All of us really loved the flavor of the sauce with it, and it was a good mix of vegetables. We were hoping it would have tofu or the chick’n in it, but it was great as vegetables.

Vegan butter and rolls

While we were digging in to that food, our gluten free rolls appeared. They were warmed, which helped, but were overly gummy and I wouldn’t get them again.

Vegan Chick’n

We were all talking about how we wanted pizza, in hopes that it was the same one from Gasparilla Island Grill. So when Chef Andrea returned with the vegan chick’n, we asked for pizza too. The chick’n dish was our least favorite. The gardein chick’n breasts were almost soggy, and the vegetable mix it was on wasn’t very flavorful. We did appreciate the greens in it though.

Vegan Pizzas

A few minutes later Chef Andrea brought out our pizzas, yes pizzaS. We thought we’d get one to share between the 3 of us. but no, she made us THREE PIZZAS. We were stoked that we were right and they were the flatbreads offered at Gasparilla Island Grill, which made us think the chick’n sandwich she mentioned was probably the one from there as well. The pizzas were great, they have fresh toppings and Daiya mozzarella. When she dropped off the pizzas she said to let her know when we were ready for dessert, to which we all laughed at because we had SO MUCH FOOD. But then I thought to myself, our blog readers want to know what dessert is, so here we are.

Vegan cake and Ice cream

We asked our server to see what the vegan dessert option would be. She returned and said it would be vegan cake and ice cream. We agreed to share one dessert plate between us. We think the cake was actually Erin McKenna’s Spice Cake with Cranberry. It was a great dessert and wasn’t too heavy after all that food.

Our server was nice enough to offer boxes for us with all our food, so we left with three containers and a pizza box. I would absolutely recommend this to vegans looking for a character buffet.

Back in 2014 I created Vegan Disney World after going to Walt Disney World several times and finding no resource for vegan options. Corey and I began this blog from our trips and have now moved closer to the mouse to eat around the parks on a weekly basis. Since the blog started we have cruised on Disney Cruise Line, gone to Tokyo Disneyland and to Disneyland in California!

  1. I wonder if they can recreate the miso tifu from GrandFlo Cafe?!
We are going to 1900 Park Fare Jan. 23rd- I am so excited! If not those pizzas are life, yum

  2. Hello!

Thanks for all the great reviews. This makes planning meals for our first trip so much easier!

Is it normal to ask for food or to speak to the chef at a buffet? We will be at the GF for a week and have planned for 1900 park fare for breakfast but didn’t consider dinner. I know my daughter would be really happy with stir fry, tofu and pizza!

    TIA.

    1. Hi there! It’s pretty common for a chef to speak with you at buffets because many of the buffets are very not vegan friendly. Additionally many items may have cross contamination issues so it’s just best to have a chef walk the buffet with you for what is vegan. Some chefs (depending on where) will leave it at that whereas others will offer other food they can make to accommodate. Enjoy!
