Whispering Canyon Cafe – Vegan Dinner Skillet

If you’re looking for a wild time and large portions of vegan food then you need to head over to Whispering Canyon Cafe at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge. When we found they had a new vegan option we knew we had to go back and try it.

Whispering Canyon Cafe is located in the lobby of Wilderness Lodge and offers fun antics, just ask for ketchup and you’ll find out, and a great place if you have kids. The food here is typical western dishes and barbecue.

They just added a killer vegan dish this week, the All-You-Care-To-Enjoy Skillet has a vegan option available! So I’m sure you’re wondering what that means since the normal one is a bunch of meat and some vegetable.

Salad with Apple Vinaigrette

The All-You-Care-To-Enjoy Skillet comes with a salad with an apple vinaigrette and cornbread. We were given those immediately after ordering. The salad was okay, the dressing was just a basic vinaigrette and the lettuce was mostly iceberg. It had slices of apple and some grape tomatoes in it as well.

Vegan Cornbread

The cornbread was… not good. It was super dry and really dense. We were given vegan butter for it and it did not help. We mentioned to the server later how it was very dry and she was surprised saying how moist it usually is and that maybe we were given old cornbread.

This is the Vegan All-You-Care-To-Enjoy Skillet for one. Here you will find BBQ Jackfruit, Gardein Chick’n Breast, Beyond Spicy Italian Sausage, BBQ Gardein Beef Tips (not pictured but you’ll find out why), Green Beans, Corn and Potato Wedges.

All-You-Care-To-Enjoy Vegan Skillet

The BBQ Jackfruit was great, the jackfruit was cooked well and had obviously been sitting in the bbq sauce for a while. I’m usually pretty indifferent on jackfruit but this was good. The Chick’n breast was really good, it had a dollop of spices on it, which I didn’t really taste while eating. But it was super crispy from being cooked and had a great smoky taste. The sausage was excellent, the spicy Italian is my favorite of the Beyond Sausages.

We noticed that our skillets were missing the beef tips so we mentioned it to our server. She was unsure why it was missing and asked if we wanted them to make anything else while they prepared those, so we obviously asked for more sausage.

After a few minutes the beef tips and extra sausage arrived. The beef tips were pretty good, they had a similar bbq (if not the same) sauce as the jackfruit, which is weird to have two bbq flavored things in my opinion. But they were a good texture and the extra sausage was delicious.

The vegetables that come with the skillet were great. The potato wedges were my least favorite as they were a little dry, but they were seasoned well. The corn tasted like corn, but the green beans stole the show. They were very well seasoned and we all destroyed them.

Since it’s All-You-Care-To-Enjoy, you can ask for more food while you’re eating. Since the vegan options are made to order it takes a little longer. We didn’t ask for anything extra than the sausage.

We also got an Impossible Burger while we were there. This is technically on the lunch menu (they offer a Bison burger at lunch and swap out the patty). It was crispy but a little over done. It only came with a few potato wedges and wasn’t really worth the $19 price tag.

They offer two versions of the All-You-Care-To-Enjoy Skillet, a lunch version and a dinner version. The lunch one is the same thing we got minus the salad, beef tips, and green beans. We were also told they can go a vegan milkshake here, as the chef will make it to order. They can also do a rice pudding dessert with mango, but we were all too full.

I am so stoked that Disney has this. Had you told me when we started this blog 4 years ago that I would be eating an entire skillet full of vegan faux meats on Disney property I would have laughed. So thank you for seeing us Disney, we appreciate all your efforts in making delicious options for vegans!

Back in 2014 I created Vegan Disney World after going to Walt Disney World several times and finding no resource for vegan options. Corey and I began this blog from our trips and have now moved closer to the mouse to eat around the parks on a weekly basis. Since the blog started we have cruised on Disney Cruise Line, gone to Tokyo Disneyland and to Disneyland in California!

  1. Really good choice! I did wish they did vegan mashed potatoes and baked beans or one of the two but what I had was so good and I left quite full! Probably would save the milkshake for afterwards and eat less salad and a little less delicious corn bread! Beefless tips (second batch was a bit more charred : ), green beans and the sausages with Ketchup of course! Don’t forget to ask for some, you won’t regret it!

The chick’n I would skip but jackfruit was good I am just not a mega jackfruit fan so I didn’t get seconds but maybe if I go again which I totally would.

  2. Just had dinner there tonight, we booked it soon as I saw the original blog post! Have to say I was super thrilled with the experience. Our server was Tami and she was super helpful, she explained that it would take a minute to get to us because the skillet is made to order but we got our ‘meats’ before the salad and bread showed up! Tami was surprised at that and said that since this option was added to the menu it has become a pretty popular item and that the kitchen staff has been working really hard to perfect its serving. The cornbread was definitely not dry this time and was honestly one of my favorite items. Salad was good and the skillet was amazing! Only negative for me was the corn was super salty but having a nice glass of tea solves that! Tami also offered the rice pudding and milkshake for dessert and I went with a vanilla milkshake which was really rich! At the end of the evening I asked to speak with one of the managers, Ashlee to thank her server for her attentiveness and to praise the restaurant for having such a fun offering to begin with. Hoping with all the positive feedback, Disney will keep offering more and more options for folks with different diets and requests!!

  3. I ate there as a veggie and loved the atmosphere. The second I saw your pics on insta I made an ADR for our upcoming trip. I just hope they improve on the cornbread because the regular version was one of the highlights of that trip.
