Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party 2017

Boo to you, Happy Halloween! During our recent trip at the beginning of October we decided to give the Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party (MNSSHP) at Magic Kingdom another shot, we previously did it in 2013.  We enjoyed it back then, but skipped the trick or treating thinking there was nothing that we could eat and just enjoyed the short wait times for attractions, the Boo to You parade and the special Halloween Party fireworks, so this time we wanted to get some candy!

Being our first trip with a baby we figured we would do the Halloween party again with some friends. We didn’t get to stay too late and watch the parade, again we were with a baby, but we did get to trick or treat! The MNSSHP has definitely improved for special diets and allergies. Previously you would trick or treat you would just get “normal” candy then trade it in before you leave for allergy-friendly candy. Now you head to either the Ticket Station in Liberty Square or the Town Square Theatre for a “Allergy-Friendly Experience” bag. Once you get the bag you trick or treat like normal but instead of candy you get tokens.

We started the party with a quick dinner at Pecos Bill’s Tall Tale Inn and Cafe in Frontierland. There are several quick service options open during the party, as well as lots of popcorn and pretzels!  After dinner we grabbed our bags from the Ticket Station then went to the first treat spot next to the Haunted Mansion. We quickly learned that the cast members are in a candy groove and you need to tell them that you get a token and not candy as our bags looked really similar to the non-allergy bags. We made several stops for tokens and found some cast members would give you one token per stop while others would give you several, in the end we found out that didn’t matter.

While walking around finding the treat stops, we stopped for a few attractions with zero wait, and noticed most people were in line for the characters in their Halloween costumes (which were adorable!).  There were several Photopass spots and LOTS of trick or treat stations.

Once our babies were done for the night we stopped up front at the Town Square Theatre to see what our vegan candy options were. There were Surf Sweets Gummy Worms, Gummy Bears and Jelly Beans, two Enjoy Life chocolates, one Dark and one Rice Milk, Smarties, and some none candy items. The cast member didn’t say anything about how much candy we get per token, because it didn’t matter. We got A TON of candy.

Being super excited to see gummy bears, and knowing that Surf Sweets had vegan sour gummy worms I made a mistake and got both Enjoy Life chocolate and Surf Sweet gummy bears for our bags. Once I posted to Instagram I was quickly told that those gummy bears weren’t vegan. I immediately checked the ingredients and was glad we hadn’t even touched those yet! Rookie mistake! Luckily they only gave us 6 bags of those and we got about 50 pieces (not joking) of the Enjoy Life chocolates.

As a whole we enjoyed the Halloween Party. I would have loved to see the parade again, but traveling to Disney World with a 10 month old meant we had to have a bit of a different trip then we were used to. The tokens were easy, we had to tell almost every cast member though, and being able to choose our candies was great. We’re not big candy people, but I know they had Skittles in the “normal” candy which are vegan. We also heard that at the earlier parties they were giving out Enjoy Life cookies too. We would definitely do this again when our little dude is a bit older and can enjoy the parade. Most attractions don’t have a wait and the park looks beautiful.
