Vegetable Bowls at Pecos Bill Tall Tale Inn and Cafe

This review reflects our experience from September 2016.

Have you ever found yourself spending the day at Magic Kingdom and trying to figure out a filling and cheap meal? When we first went vegan the only options we could find anywhere were veggie burgers. Soon everywhere in Magic Kingdom carried a veggie burger and we quickly grew tired of these meals on our trips. Suddenly, Disney changed their mind about veggie burgers and they started to replace these meals with other options. One of the first to change drastically was Pecos Bill Tall Tale Inn and Cafe who was a burger quick service. Pecos Bill’s completely changed their menu to be Mexican food, which meant no more burgers!

Pecos Bill Tall Tale Inn and Cafe

Pecos Bill’s new menu featured burritos, nachos, bowls and many other options. Originally they had a bowl option that had two meats and a veggie option. This item was awesome and only required one simple modification on the menu. After a few months they removed this item from the menu but you are still able to get it. The Vegetable Bowl is available if you ask your cast member about vegetarian options when ordering.

Vegetable bowls

The Vegetable Bowl features rice, beans, roasted squash and tortilla strips. To be vegan, you have to request plain rice. This bowl is super simple and you are able to make it your own at the toppings bar.

Toppings Bar

On our last trip, we ordered our bowls with no problem. It took quite some time to get our food, probably 15 minutes. I stood in the line waiting for our food while Corey stayed out of the way. Our food finally came out and we both went to the toppings bar to load up.

The toppings bar has several salsas, lettuce, onion, tomato, guacamole and other dairy options. Here you can pile up as high as you want! We both load up our bowls and go to find somewhere to sit. Pecos Bill’s has plenty of seating inside and some spots outside. We opted for outside as it was pretty nice that day.

We enjoyed our meals, Corey got tortilla chips to really dig into his bowl. The vegetables are still a little crunchy which works for texture. This is one of our favorite quick service options in Disney World. It’s pretty cheap (for Disney prices) and is super filling. This meal won’t leave you feeling sluggish either. If you’re not super hungry this is a great meal to share. Also, you can get this meal on the kid’s menu if you have little vegans!

Additional info: Be careful when eating outside. While enjoying my bowl and the view around us, a bird above me was also enjoying the view and managed to poop on me, missing my bowl by about 3 inches. Instead of my food, it hit my forehead.

Would we go back?
Yes! It’s cheap, easy and super filling!

Back in 2014 I created Vegan Disney World after going to Walt Disney World several times and finding no resource for vegan options. Corey and I began this blog from our trips and have now moved closer to the mouse to eat around the parks on a weekly basis. Since the blog started we have cruised on Disney Cruise Line, gone to Tokyo Disneyland and to Disneyland in California!

  1. There is a “Veggie Rice Bowl” on the regular menu at Pecos Bill tall tale cafe now in the Magic Kingdom in orlando. (note: it has yellow rice but I don’t know if that’s vegan. The bowl had yellow rice, black beans, thin long strips of tortilla chips, and squash medley. Then at the condiment bar you can add stuff like guacamole, salsa, corn, etc. I went on 3/5/18)

  2. Definitely have to ask about the veggie bowl next time. I’m always looking for healthier options in the parks! Plus I’m kind of obsessed with their toppings bar!

  3. A great option on MK days is to take the boat over to the Floridian and eat at the Gasparilla Island grill. They have a salad bar with Gardein Chicken available. It’s quite good, lower salt than a lot of Disney fare, and the boat ride is terrific.
